Fixing avatars is on my list.
However, so many of you are complaining about the busyness of the board and the ads (of which there is only one more, incidentally, than on the old board.), I fear that permitting avatars will only add to the "busyness" and therefore the discomfort and complaining.

    I like avatars. I think the "busyness" that everyone is complaining about is due to the placement of the ads, not the number of them. On the old board, they were across the top of the screen so they didn't really interfere with the layout of the board too much. With them down BOTH sides of the screen, the width of the board is uncomfortably narrow, and I personally feel "squeezed in" and surrounded by advertisements.

    If y'all are unwilling to remove the sidebar ads entirely, then why not move them over to one side, like the left column, and allow the board's width to expand the rest of the page. I think that would somewhat remedy the clostrophobic feeling we are all having right now. And it would also be a sort of "happy medium" at least - I think most of us would prefer the ads entirely gone, but also understand why you need ad space...moving them all to one side is a workable compromise, in my opinion.

    I think avatars are tacky and cheapen the look of a board. But then again, I'm against overuse of graphics in general.

    I agree completely. The new layout reminds me of Times Square - in your face advertising. It wasn't so distracting when they were across the top.

    To answer the actual question asked, I vote yes for avatars.

    Exactly! I'm not concerned about the number of ads, it's the placement of them on either side of the board. It feels squeezed in.

    I absolutely agree with the above.... and I love the idea of enabling the avatar feature!!!

    I personally dont like them because they clutter the board. As long as we have the option to turn them off on our end, I see no problem with having them.

    Ok. I've put a few in the galleries. They're pretty pitiful.

    I haven't figured out how to enable you to upload your own; I think I have to go in and fool w/ code and I'm too wiped to do that right now.

    If you know of some cool avatars somewhere, zip 'em up and email 'em to me. I can upload to a gallery.

    Let us know if you figure out a way to let us upload our own avatar? I just made my own, so I'm hoping to get to use it!

    It's a picture of my old horse's head, so you wouldn't want it for everyone to use, just wouldn't make sense!
