Set It Free

Is there any product out there that is similar to Set It Free? I love Set It Free to scrunch the crunch, but the beauty salon that sells it is kind of out of the way for me. I get great results so I won't quit using it, but I was wondering if there is any other product that compares to it.

Yes- Jamaican Mango & Lime No More Itch Gro spray (unmedicated) is supposed to be very similar. You can find it in the drugstores "ethnic" section.

I'm not totally sold on this thing yet, myself. Don't know what to really do with it. :::shrug::: I have used it to refresh, soften my hair before going out for the evening when I don't have time to grab a shower. Other than that, it kinda sits in the closet. Got some tips/instructions for a newbie? ;-)

I use it to scrunch the crunch out of my hair. I spray 3 pumps into my palm and rub together then go over my hair. I repeat the step if I still have crunch. I only use it for this and I absolutely love it.

I've tried it as a refresher and applied directly to my hair and didn't like it then.

I'm with DebbieNY13 -- I can't make heads or tails out of this product.

But Pinksugar, what result does it give you when you use it to scrunch out the crunch? Does it set the curls for a period of longer definition through the day? Or does it just give you better definition? So curious to learn more about this baffling product....

Also, this place sells Deva products a little discounted, so you might consider it:

I use it on wet/damp hair after creme or gel. I also use on next day dry hair for frizz. Less seems to be more when using this. Nice fragrance too!

I use it the same way pinksugar does. I find that it makes my curls bouncier and fuller after I scrunch out the crunch than using nothing.

My curls look soft and I don't have any frizz. It gets rid of the wetlook. I think I get the definition and hold from Joiwhip. I've tried other things to scrunch the crunch (pomade is one) and my hair always looks frizzy and stringy afterwards.

I love Set it Free also and use it daily to get rid of the crunch and to set my hair a bit. I really hate hairspray and this seems to help keep my hair in place since I have really fine hair but lots of it.
Does anyone have another idea other than the Jamaican Mango/Lime spray? None of the stores here carry it.

For those of you who don't shampoo often, does this wash out easily with just a water rinse or co-wash? I picked some up today and sprayed a little in my hand and it felt a bit sticky. Also, do you find that this helps to keep your curls more defined longer?
I'm having issues with lose of definition halfway through the day and don't really want to use a super crunchy gel so if I could use the Set it free to "set" my curls that would be great.
    Thanks!

I poo once per wk and haven't noticed any coated or sticky feeling w/the SIF. It seems to just rinse out with a water rinse. I read on a post that Struttswife mentioned to use it sparingly. I find it gives a nice shine!

I was very disappointed to see the exorbitant price raise at cosmeticmagic.com for deva products. It was such a good price there. They reaised the price of the 32 ounce bottles $6. I wrote to them.
Hair type, thin, 3b, past my shoulders always looking for length. Use jessicurl hair cleansing cream, devacurl one c, angel, set it free, Always see a deva trained stylist for cut and Aveda Institute for color.

I'm another person who's not too sure about Set it Free. It doesn't seem to hurt my hair and it sure smells good (like Skittles... yummy).

Anyway, low-poo or a conditioner with lemon juice rinse (lemon-aid) will take out anything in Set it Free that can cause buildup (beeswax).

I've actually tried both JM&L spray and I use SIF regularly to expand and fluff out my hair in the morning. The JM&L is very watery, not like SIF.

pinksugar- if you have the "Paint" program on your computer, you can just open the picture in paint, put boxes or circles over your faces, and save the picture. Voila, censored!

As for SiF, I've been wanting to try this for a long time, but I was always discouraged by the beeswax. And now with the price jump, there's kind of..no chance i'd want to get hooked on it.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.

I had no idea the price of SIF went up. I only use it to scrunch the crunch so a bottle lasts a while. That's so disappointing. That's another product I use that has gone up in price this year.

Fine, 3A/with some 3B. Here's a picture taken Christmas Eve at my in-laws. I was hoping it would show my curls better, sorry.

Reason for editing: deleted picture, it didn't really show my curls that well.

Here are the ingredients from Jamaican Mango/Lime No More Itch Gro Spray:

Update: The ingredients I had orignally posted from a web site (and have now erased) were incorrect. I saw this in a Sally's and wrote down the correct ingredients:

If anyone has a Harmon Beauty Supply nearby, that's where I picked up mine. They had One C, Low Poo, No Poo, B-Leave In, Set It free and the gels. I didn't even go in there for that but happened to see them and said hey, what the heck. Don't know if they all carry Deva though.

I can't find this anywhere out here. :( I ran out of SIF yesterday so today I used something I had in the cupboard by Matrix (straight polish) just a little rubbed between my palms. My hair looks awful. :angry7: It's just such an inconvenience to get over to the salon that has SIF. Plus, I don't want to run into the person who gave me the Devacut and made my hair look like I had a perm. Just venting.

I found this at a brand new Sally's. I didn't buy it because it smelled medicine-y and the ingredients didn't seem too close to SIF after all. It was really inexpensive- $2.89.
