What did you do to your hair today? Week of March 4

Last week I skipped my protein deep treatment and ended up with really soft hair and my waves wouldn't hold through the day.  So I did my PT yesterday and got great hair again!  And decent day 2 hair too, which hasn't been happening for a while.  So now I know my PT schedule - once a week.  At least until the weather changes - we've had the coldest February in history here, and another week of cold and snow forecast.  After that though, maybe we'll get some spring finally!

What's going on with your hair?

Toned with JOICO purple shampoo (not CG, has a silicone) to perfection. Beautiful white hair with a hint of silver. Conditioned with JOICO K pak (mineral oil) and followed with SM 10 in 1 Masque since I learned my lesson about the k pak not having enough moisture. Styled with my usual combo of As I Am GroYogurt (update, the silicone in this one doesn't appear to build up) and SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie. First and second day was ok. Today it's up in a bun. I need to clarify this weekend since its a bit frizzy and feels weird. I'll cowash tonight and resume using my Miss Jessies products that I'm not sure if I hate or love yet.

I got a very short (almost pixie) haircut from Leslie Loves Curls Sunday.  Monday did a simple routine - non sulfate poo, Deva Curl One Condition and left in a tiny amount.  Then scrunched with Ouidad Moisturizing Styling Gel.  Saw friends and got a wildly enthusiastic response to my curls! Wow - never had such a response before. Happy!
    2/c Coarse hair med. density.
    Highly porous. Color over grey.
I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....

I did a sulfate wash with  Aveda Rosemary Mint shampoo followed by a heated DC with Heaven in Hair.  My best hair is seriously always after a clarifying wash.  If I start to get more than normal frizz at the 1.5 week mark again, I might just become a once weekly sulfate washer.  A year ago I was totally drinking the co-wash kool aid, so it's a bit uncomfortable to think about washing with a sulfate shampoo once a week =P

Repeat to yourself: So what if the internet says that's not how you should take care of curly hair, if you are happy with the results there is nothing wrong with what you are using.

I've also switched to using only CJ smoothing Lotion as my leave in.  After all the discussions lately on leave in vs RO (which have been great) I've come to determine that adding a leave in opposed to rinsing out some conditioner is key to helping me get consistent results.

I pre-pooed Sunday night with coconut oil, washed the next day with my sulfate shampoo, conditioned (left most of it in my hair), then followed with lots of gel, and air-dried.  Took forever to dry.  Crunchy hair yesterday, then slept in satin bonnet, and had beautiful 2nd-day curls this morning--even my stepbrother said he liked my hair this morning!  (He's only ever said that when I straightened with a flat iron!)  This morning my hair was outside blowing in the cold wind for two hours at a Mardi Gras parade, and it still looks good!

Day 3 hair today.  I could feel I used too much gel on wash day and now my hair is starting to feel build-uppy.  I think I am going to wash tomorrow.  It looks great though.  I am having a really nice wavy hair day.  I've recently noticed that my curls are dependent on clumping.   My hair loose clumping potential with each refresh, so my hair becomes a little less curly and a little more wavy each day.

I've also noticed I get more defined tight ringlets the more weighed down my hair is.  When my hair is springy and bouncy it has a hard time getting from a wildly curvy S to an actual ringlet.  Because of this I am getting more wavy days after a clarifying wash and more of those ringlets occur as build up occurs.

@tinksaysboo, I was strictly cowash for a year until I had the worst build up you could imagine, we are talking breakage and nothing but frizz. I knew you would come around. Cowashing works for many, but I don't understand how.
My hair is great. I cowashed yesterday and used miss jessies. my hair looks fantastic. A professional I am working with asked if I had new hair today. I don't think it was an insult but I was a little output. What a strange remark.

@BrittanyM - when I first started CGM I had my FB activated and was part of the strict conditioner wash only group.  People there were saying they only clarify every 6 months - a year.  Based on my own experience and others who post online, it's so hard to believe.   Maybe it's just that majority of people coming online for help are the % that can't handle strict co-washing.  *shrugs*

Today I learned why it's important to get your curly hair cut dried while styled how you normally style it. Since my hair has been doing well air drying on refresh days I decided to air dry today. My hair dries way faster than it did 6 months ago. Yay!

BUT --  my hair was cut for the spring I get when I diffuse.  My hair springs and curls differently when I air dry and the cut I have is not made for how my hair curls when I air dry.  My hair looks unshapely and mullet like haha.   Setting aside that I don't have the right cut, I don't see much of a frizz difference, but I imagine after a longer break from the diffuser I would see a difference.  I am pretty happy with my curls so maybe my next curl journey is ditching the diffuser.   :#

Actually, I think I prefer how my hair looks with a diffuser

I got a new shampoo, Hask Coconut Milk and Honey Curl Care Shampoo, and washed w/ it for the first time the day before yesterday. Detangled w/ a bit of the Garnier avocado mask, scrunched in a bit too much ECO gel for my own good and then plopped. Even after I diffused to about 50% dry it took me 2 hours to air dry. Never before has it taken me that long to air dry after diffusing, so I knew I used too much product. My day 2 hair looked very defined and soft since I refreshed with a bit of Pure Clean gel by Garnier (I have found ECO to be a bit too heavy for refreshing) and didn't scrunch out the crunch. Today is day 3 and my hair is actually still defined and not very weighed down/oily (actually a bit dry)! Even now, my waves are nearly as defined as they were in the morning which is a rare occurrence for me. Glad to know other curlies are having luck with their winter-spring transitioning routine! It's still snowy and cold near me but when the rain and humidity comes I don't know what I'll do!
    2a/2b wavy hair
Shampoo- Hask Coconut Milk & Honey Curl Care (Experimenting w/ this)
Clarifying Shampoo- Suave Daily Clarifying (once every 2-4 weeks)
Conditioner- Garnier Fructis 1 Minute Mask (Avacado)
Styler- ECO Gel (Krystal), Garnier Pure Clean Gel
Open to suggestions/help with my temperamental waves!
**Couldn't really think of anything else to cover my face in my profile pic so I went w/ a Capybara**
