Water Only Wash?

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. I couldn't find it. Has anyone tried the water only wash washing? I saw a YouTube video from RawFoodLivin' and she's been doing it for 5 years. She does that and then just uses coconut oil after washing. My hair typically hates coconut oil but I've been trying this "method" and my hair is sooooooo soft! All I use is some oil after (either coconut or argon or avocado) and my hair isn't frizzy. And I've always had super frizzy hair no matter how much product I use. The only difference is that I've let my hair go natural gray but the texture didn't change until I tried the water only washing. I asked my husband if my hair smelled on day 4 and he said that no, it actually smelled good. Sometimes I do spray water with lavender essential oil in it but I hadn't when he said that. :)

Hi! This method is wonderful. I've just begun this method myslef. However I haven't incorporated coconut oil into it. What I do is I just water rinse my hair completely during my nightly shower. Twice a day, i.e., after waking up and around 9pm, I scritch my scalp with a fine tooth comb and finger comb through my hair as gently as possible. Each night I sleep with a wet head. This is all I do to my hair. This method makes all the products seem useless and unnecessary. Also helps me save quite a bit of money that I'd rather spend on junk food.

So I ended up giving up after a couple of months because I started to get dandruff. :( And I've never had dandruff before. I would love to give it another go if I could figure that issue out.

Some people don't do well with water-only washing. My stylist said that it can cause blocked hair follicles for some people, which can actually create hair loss and scalp issues.

Hm. Not familiar with this method. I'm not sure how healthy it would be for your scalp, long term.

i have read in other forums of people that do water wash only but I do believe they scitch their scalp and also preen.  It did take them some time to get a good routine but the scritching and preening seemed to be key to scalp health.

Wavycat ~ I think I probably didn't scritch and preen enough!

I would guess that humans washed with only water for thousands of years without issue.
I've been told that not using shampoo (as in conditioner washing) is gross and is bad for my scalp but it has worked just fine for 15 years.
So I'm betting water only washing works fine for some people.

Jeepcurlygurl - that's kind of what I was thinking too. But even if it doesn't work for me I love doing conditioner only. I can't imagine going back to shampoo.
