  I don't know what your hair is like (thickness, density etc). I personally currently use Intelligent Nutrients Perfect Hold Hairspray, which is all natural. It has strong hold but doesn't weigh down my hair. I used to use gelatin hair gel (strong hold depending on how strong you make it, but it's protein so it makes hair stronger/stiffer etc). After that I used Irish Moss (also gives hair crunch, though more moisture as well).

  Shampoos: SM Fruit Fusion (mostly), Avalon lemon (to clarify). Occasional aloe vera and glycerin to wash.
  Stylers: Intelligent Nutrients Perfect Hold Hairspray

  I've tried both you mentioned and a lot of others (Raw Curls, Max Green, a couple of the Eco Styler gels, Sevi Organics, Pattern Pusha (which I love but it doesn't have much hold and can't handle humidity), Curl Queen, Curls in a Bottle, and a few others I can't think of just now. The most reliable for me is LA Looks Sport Gel. I hate that it is blue and has polyquats, but I can count on it.

  I've used LA Looks Define & Shine gel for the past year or so, and it works pretty well on my fine, medium density, low porosity hair. Before that, I used to use LA Looks Nutra Curl, and quite liked that too. Both are alcohol free and somewhat thick, but not sticky.
  
  Today I used my mom's Suave Max Hold gel, and while it doesn't feel crunchy on my head, I didn't like that my hands felt sticky after putting it on. Years ago, I tried Eco Styler Krystal gel, and I don't remember just what I didn't like about it, but I returned it after opening it, which I almost never do, so it must have been pretty bad! Either it weighed my hair down or made it crunchy. Probably both.
