  I don't remember if it's harmful or not but I do remember reading that it's a humectant.

  Here's another article regarding the safety of PG: Propylene Glycol: The Good, the Bad and the Alternatives. I didn't read the article super carefully, but from what I saw, it looks like PG can be a problem for people who might already be sensitive to stuff in general.
