Favorite "genre" of food

Omg! My good friend from work brought me to his house to have dinner with his family and it was some of the best food that I ever had! He and his family are Iraqi refugees and boy do they eat tasty food! Best part for me is that it is mostly Gluten free!
What's your favorite type of ethnic food? Mine is Arabic, Filipino, and Mexican !

They have to be 'real' tho, not fast food or Americanized versions. I pretty much love all 'real' kinds of food.
ETA This doesn't mean I never eat at fast food or chain restaurants or even the occasional "Chinese" buffet. I do! : )

But if genre means other things besides ethnicity, I like: bowls of pasta (pho, pad thai, Piada), grilled steak, green salads w/ meat & unusual dressings, panini type sandwiches, Japanese Benihana type cooking and rustic pizzas.
Yum!
Don't get me started on Greek food.... My boyfriend's Ma is Greek and Italian ! Mmmm stuffed grape leaves for the win!
Mmmmmm! I love Greek food.
I'm currently loving the spicier (not necessarily hotter, but that's ok too) Asian foods - Thai, Indian, etc. Italian and Mexican are always good options. I love middle eastern food too. I would like to try everything, but I'm not a big meat eater and I don't eat weird body parts (lol). I like my meat in small doses with lots of veggies and grains.
I miss living in NYC for the food options. We live in the NJ suburbs now and so many restaurants wind up being just mediocre. It's been hard to enjoy restaurants since my kids are SO picky. I'll have 2 in college in the fall and my pickiest one still at home for another 5 years. When we go out, we try to go see live music and don't waste our dates on just restaurant meals.
Low to normal porosity, coarse, kinky, normal elasticity
Current favorites:

But my favorite food is coffee! Hot coffee, iced coffee, coffee ice cream, coffee yogurt - is that a genre?
....:coffee2::coffee2::coffee2: :blob7:
Highly porous. Color over grey.
I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....

Jeepcurls, I knew I liked you for another reason. As a first generation American with both parents from Italy, definitely give me Italian. However (and this sounds strange) I do not like going to Italian restaurants because I will always be a tough critic based on what I grew up eating. I love Mexican food too but I could live off steak and pasta. You rock, honey;)

: ) I rarely go out for Italian for the same reason. I'm not fussy about food, but I just prefer to make my own Italian food. There is a small Italian place around the corner and I do like to go there for meatballs and sauce and bread. And they make a fantastic calzone (something never made in our family). But I go mostly for the busy Italian family type atmosphere. Reminds me of Sundays at the grandparents' house. Sometimes eating isn't just about the food.
Sorry, getting all sentimental about my food. : )

Me too!!! When a girl at work told me her husband was taking her to an authentic Italian restaurant for their birthday I just wondered what that meant. She said because they made their own noodles and sauce. I was like "ohhhhh," but thinking to myself that a sauce is very simple to make and that most Italians do not bother making their own noodles. I have before....oh boy, it's soooo tedious and messy!

I would always just assume they made their own sauce anyway because, as you said, it's so simple lol! Yeah, even my Nonna rarely makes her own pasta or anything. She'll make gnocchi from scratch, but you kind of have to because the packet one is not the same at all.

I also chuckle to myself because so many people think all Italians eat is pasta, but seafood is a much bigger staple.
I also live in the deep south near Nawlins where Creole, Cajun, and Southern food intermingle! Can't get enough of the Creole!!!
