Would you buy from them?

Would you buy a cake for a child's bday party from a company called Sweetgasm? Or just boycott on GP? :laughing4:
They are beautifully decorated.

But the horrible play on words wouldn't keep me from buying cake.

Try it with a severe southern accent: sweeeeeeeeet-ga-zim
No, that's no better either. Sorry.
I have no idea the names of the bakeries my parents shopped at when I was young. If they went to one because it make them laugh, more power to them.
All I cared about was the cake. And frosting.
I could not have cared less about the box. Pink, blue, black. Never entered my mind.

If it weren't for that, yes, I would buy from them. I'd buy hubby a cake from there if we had the house to ourselves :thumbleft:

A name wouldn't really hinder me, Especially a place with cakes....
I don't remember how old your children are but if they are in school, kids talk about all kinds of stuff. My daughter is in middle school and most of the kids watch Game of Thrones. I won't let her watch but if she asks me a direct questions about something she heard about the show, I will answer. I would let her watch if it wasn't so violent.
My daughter is now 12 and I've always answered her questions and not "sheltered" her from the world the she is going to be on her own in, in what for me is a rather short time. She asked my husband and I about "69" the other day because some kids were referencing it at school and she didn't know what it meant. I explained. My husband froze. He said later that he thought I was brilliant, which is always nice to hear from your partner.

Yep.
I wouldn't boycott on principle, but might on not wanting to deal with questions from kids - and if for a party would most definitely not want a label with name showing out for other people's kids to see. Without knowing your kids personally, I can't say if it's a discussion you'd even remotely be able to have at this stage for them, or if it would be better to make it a plain, unmarked box kind of cake...
ETA: I wouldn't be surprised if the bakery had plain boxes with no labels they could use if you asked. Now, if they dismissed your concerns about children seeing the name on labels I would boycott on principle, as it's not their place to define how you raise your child.

But at least the pews never attend yoga!
I always knew where my bakery cakes came from, because my cousins owned a bakery for several years, but I still agree with this. It really did not matter where my cake came from, as long as it was delicious.
I would take it out of the box, and not think twice about it.

My name is Kay. I would so buy that wine. I'm going to google it, so I can get a bottle or 2....I would buy the cake. I like the name of the business, but would unbox it, so a young child wouldn't see the name.
Every person has a unique connection to the Creator that can never be extinguished, and every person has a great soul that can manifest important things in our world. To make a person feel less than they are because of something inside themselves, be it faith, race, or sexual orientation, is the greatest sin of all."
"I have no idea what it means; I think they made it up".
And if he says the word in public, so what? It's not a real word...how can it be a bad word?
K is 6 and just learning to read. He is not sheltered. For example, he knows where baby chicks come from. But that doesn't mean I want him saying Sweetgasm at school.
The original question was would we buy a cake there for a child. I stand by my "no." You (general you) can make your own choices about your own kids.
i never remember even seeing a box that my sister's birthday cakes came in. i dont think anyone cared.
sidestory: when i was about 8 my aunt through a birthday party for my uncle. she had a regular cake for the kids and an adult cake as a joke for him. it was a naked women i saw the cake. i ate the cake. it was the best freaking cake ever!!!! several relatives went to the bakery for kid friendly cakes because the bakery was just so good. i dont remember a box.
I mean the little kid probably doesn't know what ORGASM means or even know about that word...period.
So, if they asked what's sweetgasm...um the name of the bakery. Period point blank. Because it is.
off topic:
When I was a child I said orgasm out loud instead of organism because I learned about organisms in 4th grade and my parents freaked out, and then I kept saying orgasm because they spazzed, everytime I said it, I had no idea what it meant, I didn't care either, I just liked to make them spazz.
Depending on the age a kid isn't going to care what the word means, and again, RCW point is truth, it's not a real word, its the name of the bakery. So techinically you don't have to explain anything, unless they know of the word orgasm...and can put those two together.

^^^ and this is why I wouldn't buy a cake from there for my child. He would say it and someone would react spastically and then he'd use it just for the reaction.
It doesn't matter that it's not a real word because it would get a real reaction from someone and that reaction would be incentive for him to continue to say it and I have no need to hear it from my child. None.
Am I offended by the name? No. Neither am I impressed by it. Meh.
This.
I just belong to the same online small biz community as the owner and I remarked that it was a strange name for a company that markets to parents (of young kids). Not mention it's corny IMO...but I didn't say that part.
And the community kept saying to me, I should focus more on the quality of the product, not the name...a name is just a name.
And as a former marketing major, I know a name is ~not~ just a name. And if I haven't already tasted the product, I can't totally focus on the quality...the quality of the art, yes. But obviously, not the taste.
I would probably be able to hide the name from the kids. But if the cake was good, I'm sure some of the other parents at the party would want to know where I got it and be like "wth is wrong w/ her???" :sad3:
But curious as to other opinions...I mean, in a world where you can market your business almost any kinda way, someone chooses that?
Exactly.
Bc it's providing goods for children while trying to be sexually suggestive.
And like someone upthread said, it's just trying too hard. Trying to do what, IDK. But some consumers might not want to encourage that stuff.
It would be on thing if it was an "adult" bakery or catered specifically to bachelorette parties or something. But what's the reason for tje gratuitous sexual reference (when you are positioning yourself as a kids' bday cake bakery)?
I don't consider "kick ass" on the same plane as "orgasm" in terms of inappropriateness for kids. My kids are 5 and 8 and they are very familiar w/ the word "ass" and probably the expression "kick ass."
Att his point they have no idea what an orgasm is or why someone might joke about having one after eating a cake.LOL
I understand. I'm just not that conservative on these things. The name is tacky but if the product is good, I wouldn't care. I don't have kids, maybe I'd change my mind if I did but I doubt it.
As for other people judging me because I bought a cake from sweetgasm, ummm really, lol ok. I would think they are uptight and weird, not me!
If I really like my kid's friends, I don't want him to lose them because the parents think I am too risque. I don't care about what they think about me personally, but I do care about what affects my child's happiness.
My concern wouldn't be for me. The parents might not want their kids attending any of my kids' future parties or spending time at my house or whatever. I wouldn't want my kids to suffer bc I had to have the cake w/ the cool, racy name. When you're dealing w/ other ppl's kids, you just try to be as nonoffensive as possible.
