Please help my 16 year old multiracial son.

After many years of wearing his hair short my son has decided to grow his light brown 3c to 4a hair longer. He has picked it, for fun, and it is a soft sort of fro. The way he likes to wear it is just wash and dry curls. But it is so dry it is just looking frizzy. We have also noticed lots of hair in the shower after he washes it. I think this is a combination of natural hair loss, that we never noticed when it was shorter, and the fact that his hair may be breaking because it is so dry. When he was little we used to spray in like a johnsons detangler, comb it, mess it back up and he would have cute curls like a 3b (which I would love to see again). He has used some of my Pureology Hydrate Conditioner and it has helped somwhat but not enough. What he liked about the Pureology was that it didn't smell floral, it has a mint smell (which is more acceptable to a guy). Ive used Aveda Brilliant Humectant Pomade for my own type 3a frizzy, curly hair and i'm thinking of also getting some Lenore Greyle products for myself, which I used to use years ago.
So I guess this is what I'm looking for;
-Conditioner & shampoor for multiracial hair
-Something that isn't to floral-acceptable for guys
-Maybe something to leave in after to make a little looser corkscew curl or at least keep from getting frizzy. A possible problem here is he plays basketball and doesn't want something that will run into his eyes etc.
Up until he saw his hair in the tub he was unwilling to use any products. So I have to got slow. I am also of the impression that a number of black hair products may be to heavy for his hair.
I am so glad I found this site yesterday. As a matter of fact I gave my hairdresser the link for her sister and clients.
Thanks so much for your help
