I think I ruined my Daughters Curly Hair..Can I bring her Curls Back?

I am hoping to find some helpful tips here. I do not have curly hair. My husbands family does though. So I had no idea how to handle my daughters curls. Well I *thought* I knew how to handle them...but I think I have destroyed my Daughters once Gorgeous curls.

My Daughter is 6. She started to get curly hair at about 1 when her hair started to grow in. I was So Unsure what to do. So I started to wet her hair down every day. That was working! We had Gorgeous 3A curls for years. Then as preschool and kdg started I would wake her up every single morning to look put together for school and with a Spray Bottle and a Comb (Bad I now know :( ) I would comb out her hair and spray at the same time to get it soaked and then I would put creme gel in. This worked for a few years and we still had curly hair. But now she is wavy in most parts...2A-2B. Curls still frame around her face. Just all of the other once gorgeous spirals are gone! I cant help but think I have combed them away each and every day combing and wetting her hair which I thought was helpful to then scrunch and put product in. I now feel like I have combed them away.

I just bought the Curly Girl book and I am about to start! Daughter just got a trim.

Any chance I can bring those curlies back that I combed through for years?

Any styling products that are a Must Have?

Thanks so much for reading all of this. :)

It could just be her hair changed naturally. I had straight/slightly wavy hair til I turned 10 then it turned to 3A/B mix

3A/B mix with flat roots dark blonde (refusing to call it brunette I miss my blonde baby hair) lovin my curls
:angel9:rockin the curls God gave me.

    Shampoo n/a
    Conditioner Vo5 Moisture Milks
Leave in Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie
Shower, comb, apply leave in and mousse in wet hair then scrunch out the water and sometimes.
Second day, Wake up mist with water and smooth Shea Moisture Curl enhancing smoothie over hair :wav:

The curlygirl method will help any curl she has. But hair changes as well could be the cause, I had blonde ringlets up until I was 5, and then cut my hair really short and it grew in straight and brown/blond until I turned 11 it got curly again. So you never know. But I wish my parents would have known about the curlygirl method when I was younger. Im sure that it will help your daughter :)

Her hair is just probably changing. :) I use white rain conditioner on my daughter's hair and I use a little ion spray gel, and that makes it look pretty cute. :)

On my baby niece we use the kinky curly's child line of products, and they work really good for her hair. But you can go on curlmart and look at the kids products on there, they have a good selection.

You wouldn't have unfurled her fair by combing it. Not combing hair is a theory, not a rule. Some people do comb their hair.

Hair texture comes from the root. If something you do damages it IR changes it, it will at least grow back into what it is.

If over combing did something to it, it would be temporary. It'll start to curl once you stopped. Little kids hair changes a lot.

I like the everyday shea line. Very simple, mild ingredient list and not very expensive. You can get it at whole foods.

And I also have to agree it's probably just her age, nothing you did. As a 2 yo I had wavy hair. At 6 it was stick-straight. By 12 I had the hair I have today.

2c/3a-M-ii porous, good elasticity, APL, dark brown with a silver lining. Biggest enemy: frizz!

From my experience with kids, they like stuff in spray bottles. Any real creams/gels feel slimy and gross to them :P BUT, some kids may be the opposite! I've just generally found sprays to be easier; they're less fussy and much easier to distribute, and kids tend to be more inclined to use them :)

My 5 yr old was born with straight hair, that turned into adorable 3b curls, which had now gone back to straight. I've been on the curly girl routine with her since birth and my favorite products for her were kinky curly knot today and curling custard. Now I'm using deva curl products on her and her little sister. It doesn't bring her texture back but it does mean great hair days for little sis.

Her hair might just be changing as she grows up. For example, I had super curly 3c hair up until I was about 4 or 5. It slowly turned into loose, big waves before going dead straight for years. My curls came back in middle school and as an adult, I now have 3a/3b curls. All of this to say that you didn't ruin her hair by combing it, it might just be a product of getting older.

(Also is her hair longer now? If her hair is super long, it might be weighing the curls down).
