Really disturbing story, and particularly shocking when you consider that this occurred at one of the best schools in the country.

Bleach Balloons Launched At Minority Students At University of Texas

WTF is wrong with these people??

The article transitions into saying throwing balloons occurs as a prank to most females and not just to blacks; However, throwing balloons at any group of people should be considered a crime or at least punishable for going against the lease of the apartment building where they were launched.

WOW. So unacceptable and appalling. WTF.

Yes, the article does say that balloon throwing (even bleach ones) is done to women who are rushing in general, but I really doubt that claim. And all the anonymous sources saying it are very dubious. Why when there is an accusation of racism do the defenders of such racism (saying it's not happening) always stay anonymous? Stand up for what you are saying and show yourself!!!

ITA throwing balloons should be punishable...bleach balloons should be assault with a deadly weapon--whether it's done on white women or women of color.

I read that some (maybe most?) of the occurences happened in West Campus area. I lived there when I went to UT a couple of years ago and there are quite a number of frat/sorority houses and it's an area of campus filled with students who like to party alot more.

It's sort of surprising to hear something like this happening but there are enough tools on that campus (and WC area) that I cannot say I'm THAT surprised. Its good to hear that students organized a rally to protest this sort of disgusting behavior. Well see what administration will do. I remember the law school doing almost nothing when some dummies had a racially insensitive party while I attended. I'm sure those kind of parties still happen at UT. Even though I'm an alum, I don't look at that school through burnt orange colored glasses sorry.

That is terrible, and dangerous. It would be awful to get bleach in your eyes, on your hair, and your skin. I break out in a burning rash if bleach comes in contact with my skin. Im sure many other people have that same sensitivity. It could result in uncomfortable to serious injury.

As a few of you said, that should be punishable when done to anyone. Doubly so when done with hateful and racial motives. There is no excuse for it, period.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

What's the problem? They quite obviously asked for it. This is not a legitimate assault. Otherwise their skin would have deflected the bleach, as is the body's natural response.

Burning people and maybe blinding them is how people get their sh*ts and giggles now?

Water bombs are one thing but bleach? You have to be special kind of stupid to find that funny.

    Disgusting people.
Fat does not make you fat. It's actually pretty important.
