I REALLY could use some help

Hi everyone!
Im a longtime lurker of the community and I've finally got the courage to post :lol:. I've been using the curly girl method for about 2 years, before that I hated my curls and almost every day I used to straighten my hair. I need help in two areas: first, Im not really sure what tipe of curl do I have, my guess is 2c? and second, I've been having trouble styling my hair, because even thought I never use a brush and my hair products are completely organic and free of sultafes, my hair always turns up either over conditioned or still frizzy. I just can't find the right balance. So I was really hoping you could help me? maybe tell me your hair routine so I could get some tips.     Cute hair! I would put it around 2a/2b right now, but it looks like there's more curl potential there. First, do you know your hair properties? That will go a long way in helping you pick products that may benefit your hair. See this link for more guidance: Live Curly Live Free - Curly Hair Basics

    If you have fine hair, I would definitely recommend protein. Most fine haired wavies do very well with protein. You can try products with protein in them (low-poos, conditioners, stylers) or you can try a stronger dose using a protein treatment (my favorite is IAgirl's gelatin PT, but it's a strong hit of protein so you'll want to be sure your hair likes it).

    If you have coarse hair, you'll probably want to avoid protein and focus on moisture.

    I think the majority of wavies find they need at least occasional low-poos, and some find they do even better with very regular low-poos. For example, Shea Moisture makes very nice low-poos you could try.

    What products do you currently use and what is your routine when styling your hair? Have you tried techniques such as super-soaking, plopping, diffusing, scrunching (and scrunch-n-pump), etc?

    Thanks for you help! Im gonna try buying more protein-based products. My everyday rutine is co-washing with an organic coconut conditioner, then raking a leave-in conditioner, and finally scrunching in some non-alcohol gel. Sometimes I also use argan oil or instead of gel I use mousse instead of gel but I find that it leaves my hair greasy, I dont know if its only my case or not. excuse my ignorance, but how do I know if my hair is coarse? Again, I really appreciate you help:toothy8:

    If you hold a single piece of your hair up and look at it, does it seem like it's kind of hardly there? If so, it's fine. Or is it a bit more substantial yet still bends easily? It's probably medium. Coarse hair looks very wiry, substantial, and sturdy. Also, you can read this link for more information:

    I used to think I had medium-to-coarse hair, but I was completely wrong - I have a good amount of fine hair. Sometimes density and texture can be confused like that. It's also possible to have a mixture of textures on your head. Another way to tell if you have fine hair is that it often "dents" easily - i.e. if you wear it in a ponytail and take it down, if you can see exactly where the ponytail holder was, you might have fine hair.

    If you feel like you're getting overconditioned, I would add protein into your regimen (assuming your hair is ok with it). Also, I would recommend adding in a sulfate-free low-poo at least every few days.

    Frizzy-ness can be caused by different things - including product buildup on your hair (a good reason to rotate what products you use each day), dryness, ingredients that don't agree with your hair or with the current weather (for instance, glycerin and my hair do not get along), not enough gel to tame the frizz, too much product, etc. It will probably take some trial and error to figure this out.

    As for styling, I have best success when I rake/comb a tiny amount of leave-in through my hair, then get it sopping wet again by scrunching handfuls of cold water into it, then flipping upside down and scrunching a curl enhancer followed by a strong hold gel into it. I scrunch and scrunch and scrunch a lot to really get the waves/curls going and the products distributed. It should be very 'squishy' sounding. Then I flip back upright, maybe scrunch a bit more, and let it dry. Now that my hair is past my shoulders, I usually plop for ~10 minutes to pull some of that moisture out and help set my curls and speed up drying time a bit.

Im gonna read that page you recommended and try that hair styling routine, seems that what my hair really needs is more moisture so I'll try to focus on that an hopefully that will eliminate the frizz. Again, thank you!!!, your advice was a lifesaver.
