Why does my hair grow so slow

in Growing out
It's been taking my hair 4 months to grow as much as my brothers hair grows in two weeks. Even the girls at school who bCed right after me have big amazing Afro. My friends even have asked me a few times why isn't my hair growing. It's so frustrating to the point where I wish I never BCed at all. I'm starting to miss my long straight hair that grew faster and longer than most people. The hair everyone wanted to touch because it was soft not just to make sure it's not hard or dry. I miss the people that always thought my straight relaxed hair was weave.

I shampoo my hair once a week with Cantu. I don't really do much because I honestly don't have any idea what to do.

As long as your not brushing it with a sharp metal brush it should be longer after 4 months. Also, you should NOT be getting your ends cut.
The cowashing and taking care of hair on top of the head is good for retention; however, you should be more concerned with the part that includes growing healthy hair out of the scalp.
I would suggest looking at your eating habits. Eat more vegetables and try to cut out any fast foods etc.
Also, make sure you're not overloading your body with smoking or drinking and that you try to limit the time you spend with others who could be passing toxins to you by their smoking habits.
Another overlooked benefit is drinking coffee or green tea. Get your daily intake of antioxidants. Help your body to fight off unnecessary chemicals so that it can put more time into such things as radiating your skin, nails, and hair.
Although hair is an accessory, it is also an indicator of good health or poor health. Focus on you from the inside to the outside.

Maybe somebody else knows more about this but I don't think dyeing is recommended when you are trying to go natural.
I think some highlights are somewhat ok but something tells me dyeing it that much is probably one of the main reasons it appears to not grow. Any growth you're getting is probably breaking right off.
Look on the board for people or posts related to stopping dyeing and recovering from dyeing.

Not everyone's hair likes permanent dye. It broke my hair off and I personally will never touch it again. If you do use it you are suppose to baby your hair and use products designed for color treated hair. Also back when my hair was short and i cowashed every day i learned I couldnt cowash every day with silicones because i shampoo once a week and so it would build up on my hair and cause severe dryness. I see u use a cone conditioner so that could be a factor. What about deep treatments? Is your moisture-protein in balance? Someone asked if you are sealing in moisture. Everyone has to figure out what their hair needs are. Good luck
The problem is the dye in your hair has made it difficult to figure out what exactly is going on. For now, treat your hair with absolute kindness, stop putting dye in it, and let it grow.

You should calm down and not worry cause I had exactly the same problem and I found a solution for it. Doctors said everything was fine but definitely it wasn't (since my hair was growing less and less as time went by). I decided to take my hair issues into my own hands. I found out what it seemed to be the be-all end-all of hair health, and that is The Official Certified Biotin Webstore I have always sworn by Certified products when it comes to supplements, and I immediately purchased my biotin from here The Official Certified Biotin Webstore . Great quality and not only my hair would benefit from it but also my skin and my nails! I took it - and still take it - twice a day. To tell you the truth my hair didn't just recover its growth rate right from the next day but after 8-12 weeks of regular use I could see a noticeable improvement. In fact, people started giving me compliments about my hair and some friends were even asking my how was it that I achieved it.
I’ve tried like 4 different brands until i found that the best one for me. Now i’m 26 and I've been taking Biotin every day for years. My hair and nails grow SO much quicker. Hair has increased in the rate and are so long now.
Also my energy levels are high. I remember that at the beginning i did heavy cardio and interval training which helped me lose weight fast but i did not realize how biotin played a part in my weight loss until AFTER i stopped working out. I continue to take biotin every day and now that I am no longer on my diet i eat whatever i want and i don't gain weight. It appears the biotin may be keeping my metabolism to the level it was at during my training. So i highly recommend it to you. For me the best is The Official Certified Biotin Webstore my friends also use this one.
Note that sometimes protein treatments can leave the hair dry, so you may need to deep condition afterward (that is, leave your regular conditioner on your hair for 30 minutes or so, covered with a plastic cap and a towel on top of that to hold your body heat in; then rinse and style as usual).
