  I don't think I've ever seen hair without a part that wasn't pulled back in some way.

  I've never styled my hair so there is no part. I think that might be difficult to do without tying it back. I've found that doing a zig zag part gives my hair a bit more volume at the roots and it a way, it kind of makes my hair look like there's no part because of how it's parted. You could try that.
  
  Also, to get a bit of volume at the roots, I use clips. I don't get a lot of volume but what I do get is more then enough for me. I think there are videos of how to use them around here. Just use the search feature and you should find them.

  This "problem" has gotten under my skin and on my nerves for a while - my envy toward some women whose hair naturally stands up at the roots without them having to coax it at all. But after trying a bunch of different techniques (Clips, leaving in less product, updos, pineappling at night, short layers ... ) I'm getting to the point where I'm admitting this is basically just the way my hair is and there's only so much I can do to achieve root volume like they have. Mother Nature (gravity, especially) limits my options, given my specific hair type/texture. Unless I want to go nuclear and get a curly perm for my roots, I'm trying to just accept the inherent floppiness. Notice I said trying. I'm not quite there yet :?
