Curly Girl Method ... Nasty?

My mom seems to think that the curly girl method is nasty and she said that she hopes that i will wash my hair because it will start to stink.. wellll what do yolu guys think? I personally dont think that the curly girl method is nasty at all

    i dont either but i still cant live without shampoo you should try a low poo its a shampoo thats gentle (no harsh sulfates) to please your hair and a shampoo to please your mom :)

    Rinse out:GFTN/GVP conditioning balm
    Leave in: GF daily care spray leave in

    I think I'm normal-overly porous, medium-thick hair(although I see fine hair too), love protein

    Do things to please yourself. The CG doesn't work for everyone. But for those it does work for they totally love it. Myself included. Try no poo for 2 weeks and see how your hair reacts.

    I second trying it out for a little while. If you really like the effect you get (for me, my hair instantly improved using CG), explain to your mom that you are still cleaning your hair, you are just using a milder soap to do it... Using shampoo on your delicate hair is sorta like brushing your teeth with bleach: it's overkill for most curly-haired folk. Switching to the hair equivalent of toothpaste just makes sense. She might feel differently about it if she understands you will still be cleaning your hair.

    I dont think it is nasty at all and she will see to when you are using the methode. :) I think that you should try it out.

    Did you inform your mom on what the cgm does for curly hair and that conditioners actually have cleaning agents in it? I can see why some people are put off by it.. but you can still use shampoo's without sulfates in it to be considered cg, right?

    Don't worry, it really doesn't make your hair smell bad or anything! It's still a good idea to have a low/no-poo on hand for when your hair gets extra dirty or needs clarification, but just conditioner most of the time is fine!!

    Have your mom read about the method, show her how much it could help your hair. However it does not work for everyone! I have been CG for 5 months and it has been really good for me. My coarse hairs have gotten much softer and tamer. Find a conditioner that has some cleaning agents in it and use that as a shampoo (make sure to wash it out enough do that your hair doesn't get greasy) then condition and do everything else you normally do as usual (without sulfates).

    Let me just say that since starting with co washing,about 3.5 years ago, my hair is not only softer and healthier...it does stink less, I get complements on day 3 of how my hair smells Sooo good, and what shampoo do I use? I usually just laugh and say thanks.

    If she's being very resistant you can make a deal with her - she lets you try it out and you'll use shampoo if/when your hair starts to stink. Since that won't happen, you're free to continue using CG and hopefully your mom realizes that it's not dirty.

    In the end it's your hair, do what you like, experiment. Plenty of my friends in H.S. shaved their heads, home-dyed it all colors, etc. despite what their parents thought.

    If you do use this method though, make sure you ARE cleaning your scalp - you have to really scrub it to make sure all the build up is getting out. Don't use a conditioner that is very heavy - something light and cheap like Suave or V05 (they cost like a dollar) works best I think. Also it might be good to have a gentle shampoo (no sulphates) around to clarify every now and then.

    it's not like you don't wash your hair at all!
    Have you explained it to your mom? Mine didn't understand it either at first (especially since I couldn't just give her the book...she doesn't know English very well) but then I explained and she actually helps me to find good products :)

    Don't worry. She's just saying that because it's something new to her. For most people clean hair=using shampoo, so if they hear talk about not using shampoo they automatically think dirty hair. I follow a modified CG routine. I only shampoo (sulfate-free) once a month and co-wash once a week, and my hair smells fine.

    of course it isn't nasty if you do it right XD as long as the dirt, leftover product and the sweat doesn't stay in there it is fine. XD
