Hair color didn't cover gray.

I colored my hair on Monday evening. I've been coloring my hair at home for the last several years and I've never had this problem. I put the color on my roots first for 35 minutes, and then pulled the color thru to the ends for 5 minutes. I have porous hair that sucks up color at the ends so I never leave the color on the ends for more than 5. Everything looks fine except the roots. The max time on the box for stubborn grays was 30 minutes. Anyhow, my hair is dark brown and my roots are light brown because it didn't really cover the gray...it just tinted the gray. How long before I can recolor? I use permanent color but a different brand that was on sale. I usually use Preference by L'oreal. This time I used some color foam by John Frieda. I won't make that mistake again. I want to do my roots again but how soon is too soon?

Oh - and i used to split the box and just do my roots and save 1/2 for the next time - i just didnt mix the two bottles together. Had an extra application bottle. Dont know if that will work for you....it worked for me if i just had to do a little touch up.

Thank you NC for bringing me back to curly!
+1 as my friend uses NI. I actually use henna and it covers my gray very well. I use a different ratio of my mix for the gray hair than the rest so I don't have copper hair.
Will you look back on life and say I wish I had or I'm glad I did. -Sent from my iPod touch using CurlTalk-
