Does your wet hair absorb butters and rich oils

in Hair Type 4
Does your wet/damp hair absorb butters and rich oils easily ?
Can you reply yes or no and list your porosity?
If no , does your dry hair absorb butters and oils better?

I think my hair is mixed when it comes to porosity.

No, my wet hair does not absorb butters/oils.
My porosity is annoyingly LOW
My dry hair will absorb castor oil.
**all other oils/butters have to be part of a water based emulsion**

:wave:Jessica, you said your wet hair doesnt absorb butters or oils but , will your dry hair absorb butters and oils or no to that as well?
I stopped using raw shea because as the day continued my hair would feel dry... which made me think it wasn't absorbing. By the end of the day it felt like dry grass.
Coconut and Olive oil do very well on my wet hair. It feels much better now as the day continues.
Here to learn and grow....
My hair feels soft, moist and fluffy, but dry and not greasy. I know its strange because you would think shea butter would just make my hair feel greasy and heavy...it's like my hair eats it up. This is why I prefer shea butter to gels for slicking down my edges.

She states that it works best on dry hair. There isnt a speck of water in this and I know for myself , I would wind up with greasy hair. I would have to put something wet under this first and then add the butter. It actually says works best on dry hair since wet hair generally doesnt absorb butters and richs oils readily
I can never just add a nonwater based butter to my hair , no more how light it is to my dry hair is. Hmmm
Only castor oil will absorb into my dry hair. Everything else just sits there creating an oil slick type of situation or makes my hair hard n crunchy lol

My hair absorbs light oils very well. Heavier oils like olive & coconut used straight are not absorbed easily but in a water based emulsion it does better.

ETA: Actually, now that I think of it, as a pre-shampoo treatment on dry hair it mostly just sits on my hair, which is just fine for that purpose. As a DC, I put on a cap so I think the heat is what makes my hair absorb it.
Low porosity
def not my dry hair. I have to train my hands to add this on dry hair. I think its better on my wet hair bc I rinse with almost hot water to open my cuticle for whatever I want to put on it. This is why I prefer applying moisture rich stuff in the shower right away. It has a better chance of doing what it needs to do.

I'm recalling that maybe lighter oils, e.g., jojoba seem to absorb decently when I have twisted my damp hair. Same for very small dashes of castor oil as well.
I've learned that if I want my hair to absorb anything, e.g., a pre-wash deep conditioner like AO Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner, I need to get it damp, at least.
I'm grateful that I've finally figured this much out about my hair.
Not sure about my porosity I think henna tends to mask it.

I use them mainly in the winter tho, and try to keep a light mixture of oils on my hair in the spring and summer.
Shea butter, from what I can tell, leaves my hair feeling soft and moisturized but dry-to-the-touch (but not dry as in "damaged dry"). Liquid oils leave my hair feeling soft, moisturized, and with a bit of a "wet look".
I believe I have medium porosity. Sometimes conditioners do not absorb well into my hair. Sometimes when I mix conditioners with oils, I get little white beads.
:afro:
i have high porosity in the back, and super duper, epically high porosity in the front. (well, really just on the hairline)
and the section (in the front) that i colored last year is even more porous.

What do hair typing, Santa, the bogey man, and the great pumpkin all have in common? My utter and complete disbelief in them of course. ;-)

A little off subject, but conditioners heavy in oils/butters (i.e. Aubreys) don't seem to do much for my hair, even as pre-poos on dry hair. I prefer not to add oils to my conditioners.
