...I could seriously use some of those healing curly vibes right now.

Its been a hard couple of months, I got fired from a job that I've absolutely hated for the last year, but was too scared to leave due to the economy and all that.

Now I'm trying to file for unemployment since I wasn't really given a reason for being fired, and they are fighting me on it.

Its all a long story I'm just too mentally exhausted to go into. My husband had been so helpful and caring and I'm trying to stay strong and positive for him, but inside I'm just trying to hold it all together.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

I've missed you. Sorry, you are going thru this. That really sucks. I'm glad your husband is being supportive. I think right now employers are getting rid of some of their higher paid employees, so they can hire more at a lower pay rate. I really hope you can get the unemployment. They are really ass wipes to fight you on this. (((HUGS)))

Thank you all so much. Losing a job is hard enough as it is.

My original boss believed that happy employees make productive employees so he gave us lots of incentives and compensation. Then he retired. The new guy believed in saving as much money as possible and cut spending and stopped giving us raises. I was paid a lot for a clerical position. I was fired saying "it wasn't working out" and given a month severance. I knew me and my boss didn't click so I wasn't terribly surprised and after it happened, I filed for unemployment.

It took forever to get a decision and then yesterday I logged on to my unemployment benefits amount and it said I was approved. I was so relieved. Then later in the day I got the mail and my letter of decision said I was not approved due "breaking a rule that resulted or could have resulted in severe damage to the company". I racked my brain all night trying to figure it out exactly what that was and I had nothing.

I called the unemployment office and they gave me a very vague answer as to why my claim says (and still says) approved online, when I got a letter saying it wasn't, but the bottom line is I'm going to have to appeal. I have legal insurance through my husband, so I'm going to seek the advice of an attorney on what I should do and say.

Riotkitty, I remember you! (((Hugs))) I can really relate to what you are saying. I had a great boss for many years and then a disastrous one and had to leave my job of 27 years. I am so sorry. But the worst thing for you sounds like the mix-up with the unemployment! Goodness, I hope that works out for you. Please let us know. All the best to you :love3:

    I'm sorry, Riotkitty.

As for unemployment, eligibility is determined state by state, so this may be useless information, but in Iowa, you are generally eligible for unemployment unless you were terminated for misconduct. Misconduct is something above and beyond negligence or a mistake -- it has to be something so egregious that it can be inferred to have been intentional; something so contrary to your employer's goals that you would have had to know it was wrong. L

If you're research savvy, search your state's legal code for unemployment insurance and terms like "eligibility" and "misconduct." Hopefully you can find it easily and put together an argument for your appeal. Good luck to you!

THEY'RE FULL OF SH*T!!! Tell them put it in writing. At my last job they pulled that crap with employees so they didn't have to pay unemployment to people they FIRED and they didn't give them a letter of termination or anything either.

One poor woman was about to lose her house!!! She didn't even work where I was but I knew her situation and wrote her something so she'd have documentation. Dammit, fight them on this, get your money.

Ugh I cannot STAND folks like this!!!

Good luck! You'll be okay :)

Hear. This is what I've heard about the state of Colorado as well. That's why I'm going to pursue this further. I think its my boss thinking he can save a buck by denying me, hoping I'll either find a job soon and forget about it all (which I would like too), or be to scared to do something about it.

Again thank you all. I just need to find the inner strength for it all.

I agree with appealing the decision. There are some companies that pull this with former employees.
