Anyone with waves have peek-a-boo highlights?

My hair is 2 something. Most of the girls I see with so called "peek-a-boo" highlights have straightened hair, so it looks pretty rock n' roll. But I was just wondering if any wavies (or curlies!) had them and if they have pics and if the "look" translated well (I do not have a punk look....).
I don't want regular highlights because I love my natural colour but want to mix things up without the 'lights being visible everywhere (cuts down on colouring and root touchups).
