DevaCurl: Can This Really Be It?

Just did my first round of devacurl products: Low-poo followed up by One Condition, then scrunched through with Angell and man am I disappointed.
Not only is my hair not curling, it's also frizzed up into a giant pyramid shape that I was utterly unaware it could even make. On the plus side, it does look awfully shiny, but the texture, curl pattern and the fly-aways are just awful.
I've been using mostly products with sulfates and cones, so this is my 1st foray into low sulfate shampoos and conditioners. I have wavy / curly 2b hair and Aveda Be Curly has worked great to get curls in the past -- but if I can get good results with a low-sulfate routine, I'd prefer it.
For those of you that tried DevaCurl, was there an adjustment period for your hair where it temporarily looked fried before settling into lovely curls? Also, if it did work for you, how long did it take to kick in?
Thanks!!

I actually like the Deva Concepts products. I also forced my husband who has extremely dry, strawlike 3c/4a curls to go CO with DevaCare NoPoo and One Condish. He uses ArcAnGel and Set Up & Above and his hair is soft and frizz free. After a week he now has cute soft pencil curls that I can run my fingers through. I suggest you try using the One Condish as a LI and play with the quantities of product. With the Angel, definitely less is best. I also read somewhere on NC that ArcAnGel is less drying than AnGel.

I gave the DevaCurl products another go around this morning -- this time leaving in some of the 1C -- better results than yesterday but still far worse than what I was getting with sulfates and silicone.
I'm going to give them a week or so to be sure, but right now I'm suspecting that like most of you I'll be abandoning at least some of these as well. The Angell in particular, I suspect is the culprit behind the ridiculous amount of dryness in my hair right now.
Also, Bettinfla, how do I make FSG? Do you have a recipe? Thanks!
My 2b hair hated Deva products. The only two I use now are the Set It Free and Mister Right. And sometimes I hate the Set It Free--if I use a little too much my hair is product-y and stiff.
Keep searching around and try other lines--there are a ton of them. Find a "hair twin" (someone with hair qualities similar to yours--it is helpful to look on the "2" threads) and follow what they use.
I am currently loving homemade FSG (from Botticelli Botanicals), Komaza coconut pudding, Goddess Glaze and Paul Brown Gelatine Goo as my stylers (not all at once, of course). I particularly hated the Deva gels--I tried both the Angell and ArcAngell and found them drying with little hold.
Good luck!

Maybe someday I will learn to cook my own, but for now I am a BB fan!
Hope that helps!

I tried to PM BB but did not hear back. I also contacted her on her etsy site and she responded very quickly. I think its best to "Contact Botticelli Botanicals" on the etsy site because she gets a notification with every "contact". I am about to order my first batch of BB FSG and am so excited. Wish me luck!

I personally have a love/hate relationship with the Deva products. Some are fantastic for me (like LoPoo, B'LeaveIn, and the pomade they just phased out), and some bring out the worst in my hair (and I've found most of those products new homes). NoPoo and OneCondition have not met my keep and use up criteria.

They are not for me, nor for alot of other curlies. Look for curlies with hair like yours and try what they use.

I will admit the curl pattern is tighter than usual using DevaCurl -- but the increased frizziness everywhere but the crown of the head and the resulting triangle isn't doing me any favors.

In my case I concluded that it was the Angell that caused the frizz (scary ugly frizz). When I switched to flaxseed gel it improved 100% (with No-poo and One).
Some more experienced CGs have mentioned to me that Angell should only be used in hair that is in excelent shape already.
Wavegoodbyewavehello, you also mentioned transition time - for me it tok over two months after starting GC (with Deva or other products) to start getting some sort of decent hair (mainyl, because of frizz). I guess it depends on the state each person´s hair was before CG?

I agree with M.A. Rather than sticking with a commonly sold brand, try a variety of products, and feel free to mix them up.
Deva was not the best for my hair (also a 2c).
