Sacramento Area Stylist - HELP ME PLEASE

v1998v1998 Posts: 20Registered Users
Hello All,

This is my first time on here and posting. I just discovered the site.

I need some help finding a stylist to cut my hair. I was researching and came across the name Beverly Neeland to only find out she recently moved to San Diego. Any of her former clients in the Sacramento/Roseville area have any good suggestions for a stylist. I did find other reviews for a Heather A., but they are very mixed.

Please help me find someone as I am interested in making a big change to my normal 4-6 inch yearly blunt cut because I don't know what to do with my hair.

I'm not sure what type of curls you have or what your routine is like (CG?, etc.), so it's hard to recommend a stylist.

I have shoulder length 3b/c hair and really like getting Deva cuts now. I went to both Heather (not a Deva cut, but I think she's pretty good) and Beverly (used to do something close to a Deva cut, but yes, moved to San Diego).

I had been driving to SF to go to Madusalon. they are all Deva trained and are curly specialists for any type of cut. They do a great job, but making the time to get there was proving to be really hard.

I recently went to Rachel at LUSH in Downtown Sac. She does good work with curly hair, although not the curly Deva cut method.

I have FINALLY found a Deva trained stylist in Lincoln. I'm going to call today to make an appt. so, I'll post after my experience and let folks know how it went.

Thanks for the information and responding.

My hair is currently mid shoulder blades and I think I have 2c/3a hair. I have no real clue, the way I always wear my hair is pulled back, up and out of the way. I have essentially done this since I was a child. The first time I cut it, I was 14 yrs old and freaked out at what it did. I normally had my mom trim 2" off and this time talked her into taking me someplace. I had about 10-12" taken off and layers put in. My hair shrank up so much, everyone thought I permed it. This was the first time in my life that any real weight was taken off.

Started letting it grow out to pull back, up and out of the way again. Cut again in college, even shorter, but this time hair did not curl up as much. But still didn't know how to deal with it, so I let it grow out and back to the same routine. For the past 17 years, yes I said 17, I get an annual haircut from a friend in another state, she is not a CG expert. She is a wonderful stylist and has had great training in all fields but curly hair. I get her to cut 6-8" off each christmas.

I am ready for a change and discovered this site. So thank you for responding. I did come across Rachel's name on Yelp with one review which was positive. I went to the Deva website and saw the one located in Lincoln. But since I have really no clue, I thought I would ask for a referral from people on this site.

Please let me know what you thought of the people/person in the Lincoln salon when you go. I am anxious to make a change and embrace the curls.

So, I got a great Deva cut from Susan (owner) of At Last Salon & Spa in Lincoln (just outside of Sacramento) last night.

She's deva trained and did a great job! She spent about an hour on my cut and then I left with my hair dry. I'm experienced with Deva cuts and styling, so it worked out perfect for me. I think she probably rinses and styles for those that are just trying to figure out how to work with their curly hair.

She listens and gives advice. She will work with you on the style that you want to achieve. I can highly recommend her!

Anyway, she's just a few minutes from my house and I'm sooooo happy that I've found her. No more driving to San Francisco!! YEA!!!!:wav:

That is so awesome to hear. Thanks for the update and info.

How long did it take to get an appt? What does she charge?

I think I am about ready to take the plunge and cut my hair.

She books about two weeks out and the Deva cut was $55.

Best of luck with your new cut, where ever you do decide to go!

Laney1 and v1998 I'd love to see photos, before and after would be great! My friend Julie goes to Susan and has been telling me to go see her. I left a message today but haven't heard back. I really need to get something done with this mop. It's heavy and crazy looking!! I am sadly one with no patience but you both sounds so pleased, that I'll hopefully get a call back and see Susan soon.

The first pic is how I wore my hair since 1992. #2 Learning to embrace my curls and length of hair. This is with 1 month of going curly and lots and lots of moisture treatments. #3 Day of hair cut, length of hair wet early in the morning. Needed to be dry by the time of my appt in the late afternoon. #4 & 5 The NEW hair cut. I am loving it.

Thanks, it is taking some time to getting used to short hair.

Even though I highly recommend Susan, have you looked for someone closer to you since you live an hour away. Here is the website, /home/leaving?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.devaconcepts.com%2F" class="Popup , go to find a salon section. Maybe there is someone closer. If not, Susan is the person to go to.

+1 for Susan. I had a friend in that area get a Deva-cut with her a couple days ago and she is very pleased with not only the results but with Susan's knowledge of curly hair and products.

I went and saw Susan yesterday at At Last Salon and Spa in Lincoln, and she made a comment about how business has picked up, esp. in regards to Deva cuts!!!
I told her about all the great reviews she's getting here, and she appreciates it! :)

I have been going to her for abotu 2 years, however went to a different salon somewhere in the middle there, so we had to kind of 'start over' and get my hair back to what it needs to be, it's taken about a year.

Susan is also great with color, so if you have the need to get highlights, or have something corrected, she does an AWESOME job. I am going back next week to ahve some highlights 'fixed' that I got done somewhere else.

If anyone is interested in a Ouidad cut, there's a great stylist in Roseville, Jennifer Gouge and she works out of Neveah Salon & Spa. She's cut my hair that last couple of times and has done a great job! My hair is a mix of 3 a/b/c and she handled it beautifully!
