extreme FRIZZ need help ASAP!

Ok so I feel like I'm at my wit's end with this frizz/bird's nest on my head. No matter what I do I can not control this frizz in between the curls. Reluctantly I am attaching a pic so maybe it can be helpful in any advice that you ladies have, although I am quite embarrassed :angry3:. Here is what I have done/been doing:

1. cowash w/Deva lopoo 1-2 times a week, rinse out GVP CB, leave-in GF sleek and shine, scrunch [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] or [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]Re:coil[/buylink]

or

2. cowash w/Deva lopoo 1-2 times a week, rinse out AOHR, leave-in Deva OneC, scrunch rocking ringlets and HETT gel.

I always do a cold final rinse upside down and I plop for up to 15 minutes with a flour sack towel and I just keep getting the same in between curls frizz. I DT once a week with GVP CB and coconut oil and I do a PT every few weeks with Joico Kpack. Please please someone help, I'm so tempted to just go back to flat ironing my hair straight at this point.....

fyi--for some reason the picture would not attach, but just check out my fotki the pics dated march 2010

Do you ever use heat, ie. a flat iron, curling iron? It looks like it could be heat damage. And remember, even if you haven't used heat in a long time, it could be damage from way back. Just a thought.

Frizz has a lot to do with moisture - I find the more moisture I use, the less frizzy I am. I don't know what sort of texture/porosity you have, but I always find that GVP isn't anywhere near enough moisture for me.

You don't say whether you scrunch out the crunch or not. I find that when I decide to scrunch matters a great deal - I *have* to wait till things are completely (and I mean completely) dry to do so otherwise my hair'll frizz up.

Also, not to push a product, but I find [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] works best with [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Knot-Today-p-207.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-knot-today-leaveindetangler]KCKT[/buylink] as a leave-in. I think there's a reaction between the ingredients that gives the best results, because on their own or with other products they don't work as well.

Also, sometimes you just get frizz between the curls, and that's just your pattern. You can't really fight it unless you straighten and then curl with a curling iron. My curls are often in double and triple helixes rather than cute springs - and often with a hair or three inbetween. It's just my pattern.

Well I have only flat ironed once on a very low setting since October, but my roots are just as frizzy as my ends so I'm not sure if it is the prior heat damage from before October.

btw-- I have mostly high porosity and medium to thick texture. I do scrunch out the crunch when it is completely dry, however I see the in between frizz while i'm raking and scrunching in my leave-in conditioner in the shower. It's so strange. Also can anyone recommend something that is thicker and provides more moisture than GVP conditioning balm and AOHR. Maybe I'll pick up some [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Knot-Today-p-207.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-knot-today-leaveindetangler]KCKT[/buylink] too.

I wouldn't recommend GVP for anyone with really dry hair - it seems to dry quite a few people out. Some are fine and find it great - but sometimes it can make things worse. AOHR's pretty good, but it can take a while to get your hair into condition if it's super dry (I used it every day for two months before I started to see real improvement). AO White Camilla is more moisturising, but it's quite oily as well. There are a lot of DTs out there that have even more moisture - I like Curl Junkie Curl Rehab (it's great for fine hair, so you may need something even more moisturising). I'm not sure how much help that is - you basically need to scour curl mart and see what sort of DTs crop up. I'd look for something high in butters and oils.

Is your GF product CG? If there are tough silicones in it (and some don't build up, some are easy to remove), your Deva Lo-Poo won't wash them out. That will give you buildup, and buildup can cause major frizz.

Have you tried just a simple sulfate poo with minimal ingredients? When I had buildup with LOOB, I used Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo and my hair felt incredible - my frizz seriously went down and my hair was softer.

Let me know what you use for moisture. AOHR and AOWC never left me moisturized even a little bit. GVP Balm was too inconsistent for me to bother with it after I used up the bottle.

Everyone is so different, but this has just been my experience.

Oils make my hair frizz. If I use AOHR, my hair will frizz, if I use coconut oil, my hair will frizz, EVOO, Jojoba - you get the point. This is just my crazy hair.

So in the summer time - I use products without oil in it. I personally like the GVP Conditioning Balm. I also like BioInfusion Hydrating Balm.

The way I found out that my hair does not like oil was by clarifying it. I used oil in it - it frizzed, so I clarified and the frizz went away. I styled my hair with products that did not contain oil, and the frizz factor was pretty much nil.

You could try doing the same thing. Clarify your hair and then apply products without oils and see if this makes a difference for you. It might be that your hair is ok with some oils, but not with others. Coconut oil is a BIG no-no for me, but jojoba - I can sometimes get away with if mixed with other things. You just have to do some investigating to see what your hair likes.

In the winter it is extremely cold here, so I'm using oils and butters like they are going out of style. I could care less if my hair is frizzy now, because I do everything I can to keep it conditioned, and I wear protective styles so it doesn't matter it my hair frizzes or not. But as soon as it gets warm, I will clarify and start using my oil free products again.

Onyx, I was going to mention the same thing about the oil. With the AOHR and the coco oil, there's a lot of oil that could potentially be building up. On me, that results in straw-like, frizzy rats nest!

I much prefer to use a gentle, sulfate shampoo once in a while instead of just low-pooing. I find it really brings my hair back, making it feel shiny and soft again.

Ivy, maybe you need to add more products to your rotation. I find that my hair is much happier when I switch up my products. In fact, I almost never use the same product two days in a row. Good luck!

Just had a look at your pics - its really not too bad! Another thing to make sure is that you are applying your products thoroughly. I sometimes miss bits and its not till I see a photo that I realise. (I can't recommend a low poo being in the UK in case you don't have the same in the US - apart from the likes of CJ or curls cleansing cream). But honestly your hair is looking good.

I use Neutogena Anti-Residue Shampoo, it's always easy to find in the drugstores. It has minimal ingredients - a clarifying poo should not be leaving behind its own mess.

And the name might scare you, but I'm very prone to dryness (if I don't have it right then) and it's not bad at all. It feels better than some of my old poos that weren't meant clarifying, and any dryness I get never survives my conditioners.

I used [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] and at first my hair looked great. After a week or so I noticed that my hair was easily getting knotted. I went in to get my hair highlighted and my colorist asked me what happened to my hair. Her hand was getting stuck in it. I told her that I was using [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] and she said that she'd noticed that others had the same issue. She's being doing my hair for the last 5 years and is good at noticing changes in my hair. If your hair is dry and frizzy. I wouldn't recommend using [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink].

I don't have much to add, but I agree, I don't see much frizz. I totally understand though because I see every little stray hair and have high expectations for frizz control. For this reason, I would recommend

I used CK a few years ago and my hair felt horrible...matted and producty...yuk! With [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curl-Junkie-Curls-in-a-Bottle-p-995.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curl-Junkie-Curls-in-a-Bottle]CIAB[/buylink] it feels very soft, smooth and controls frizz very well. I also second the suggestion of CJ Rehab for a good moisture DT. You have such beautiful curls so don't give up yet.

I have been using the gvp conditioning balm like every day so maybe that is the problem. The [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]kccc[/buylink] doesn't really dry me out tho, I don't put it on my roots and that's the frizziest part to be honest. For a DT, what I'd the best CJ one?

I've had a couple of other thoughts. Hope you don't mind.
    1) Do you have more than 1 texture/porosity? Alexjoujou's daughter has and there is a good thread by zcurlygirl that addresses this and other frizz issues with suggestions and outcomes that may help here: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/showthread.php?t=87950
    2) I find (and have heard others say) that I can't use [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]Re:coil[/buylink] more than 2 times in a row as it seems to build up and my curls get stringy and producty.
    3) If you are planning on ordering from CJ, why don't you email Marsha with your questions and concerns? I've read about others who have done this and have found her to be very helpful.
I haven't read through your thread again to see if these have been mentioned so, I apologize if I'm repeating others.
oops! one more thing...have you tried Del's Spritz and Condish method?

Ok so I did my hair today and I am soooooo happy with the results! I will update with the pics later. My frizz has significantly decreased. Here is what I did. First I used kinky curly come clean ( I haven't used a poo in months) this shampoo made my hair clean but extremely stripped so I won't be using it again. Then I did a dt with devacurl onec have never used this as a dt before but I was just experimenting). Then I raked and scrunched in kinky curly knot today in sections then I scrunched in kccc and let it airdry. And I love the results! When I get to a computer I will post the pics. My curls are so much more defined and shiny. I would like more volume but it's ok. I didn't plop which I normally do. Anyway I still need a good dt so I think I may email Marsha and ask for a recommendation. Please excuse any spelling errors I'm typing on my iPhone lol

Ok here are the pics. The first one is my before picture with my crazy frizz taken yesterday. The second one is my after picture taken today.

Maybe you needed that action from Come Clean to remove build-up? I use it when I want to get really clean but not use sulfates (ie a clarifier). I find it leaves me SQUEAKING clean (which is normally a no-no), which I want sometimes if I've done a lot of oils.

I'm still amazed it's sulfate-free. Come Clean lathers like nobody's business!

I'm glad you were able to find something that helped. Sounds to me like one of your products is giving you build up and the poo helped to remove it. The Come Clean also made my hair feel pretty stripped.
Might be the oils like some suggested but you might want to consider the amodimethicone which is in the GF and also Deva. I can't use any products with amodimethicone because they build up horribly in my hair and give me awful frizz after just 1-2 uses.

First, I have to say that your pix looks great! Your curls are so beautiful! The frizz doesn't even look bad, but I know how you feel - sometimes what isn't obvious to others can be bothersome to us.

I think the oils are definitely the problem. I can sort of even tell by the look of the light frizz. That same thing happens to me, so it isn't a surprise that the Come Clean helped. You might need to use that once every couple of weeks, just to clear off the buildup.

On that note, I've found that some sulfate-free shampoos are even harder on my hair that some sulfate ones! For instance, Giovanni 50/50 shampoo was VERY harsh, but Nexxus Therappe isn't. You might want to experiment with some gentle, sulfate shampoos too.

Last but not least, I didn't find OneC to be moisturizing AT ALL on my hair. For a DT, I'd definitely recommend something richer, like Curl Junkie Rehab or Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment. I'd recommend that you try to find ways to up the moisture with products other than oil-heavy ones, to see if that helps in the long run.

Have you tried [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curl-Junkie-Curls-in-a-Bottle-p-995.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curl-Junkie-Curls-in-a-Bottle]CJ curls in a bottle[/buylink]? Frizz is the bane of my life and while I've found some ingredients make it worse, I've never really managed to deal with it. I recently bought some [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curl-Junkie-Curls-in-a-Bottle-p-995.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curl-Junkie-Curls-in-a-Bottle]ciab[/buylink] and have to say it's worked wonders for me and my frizz, I actually had compliments which is practically unheard of!
Don't know if you want to shell out more $s but it might be worth a try.

    Is this similar to curlkeeper?
I think it's marketed as a light hold gel (it's a runnyish kind of gel texture) but it gives me too little hold. I use it as a base product, after leave-in and before mousse.
Curlkeeper never did anything for me, I think it was the product that caused me most disappointment, so in that respect it isn't like ck - it's what I expected ck to be and wasn't.

Looking at your pic though, I guess you've sorted things out anyway!

    ME TOO!

I thought it was just me, or that my hair is just already messed up. I don't think I'll be using it again..I've been using it on and off for the last few months...alternating it with Giovanni's Tea Tree Trip Treat...but I believe it feels the same as well!
