Have you looked into a water softener or shower filter?

Both are good ideas, for when we get out from under the parents' roof. :sad11:

In fact, I think I'd like a RO since I have fluid retention issues & don't need extra salt.

You can easily install a very inexpensive shower filter right away. This is what i did...It was $25 at Bed Bath and Beyond..and it screwed right into the pipe and on the showerhead.

Super easy..I might recommend it..I can't imagine someone would be upset if you did this:) It would benefit all and its really inexpensive:)

You could try doing the spritz and condish method to wash your hair. Hair can only soak in water for 15 minutes. So if you put distilled water in your spray bottle and use the S&C method your hair should only soak in the distilled water. Maybe a final rinse with distilled water too??
Good Luck with the Matriarch.

Have you tried using Daily Fix from Curl Junkie? I've got horribly hard water (horribly - the UK goes from hard to super hard, and I'm in the hardest area), and everything I tried was too drying or had soap in it (which traded a mineral deposit problem for a soap scum problem). Daily Fix has a chelating ingredient and I find it's the only thing that get outs the deposits and also doesn't dry out my hair. I only need it once every couple weeks. Worth a try. :-)
3b/c. Fine, med-high porosity, normal elasticity. Hair loves oils in summer, protein in winter. Constantly battling the hard water monster.

I was having the same problem once we moved to Italy a year ago. I started using chealting shampoo 1x a month, moisturizing shampoo 1x a week and co washes 2x a week helped reduce the stripped feel but kept my coils mositurized. None of the locals know anything about a showerhead filter so going completely CG was out of the question but my regimen is working for me. Hope this helps and good luck.
