Need CG hairspray advice. I wanna spray!

Sorry to double post. I'm still learning the forums.

I need help! I'm on my 4th day CG and doing really well. My routine is very simple, and I am being very careful in selecting products. There is only one thing I really really miss. Shampoo? Nope. My hairspray. I keep reading it over and over. The part about the vinyl can't be good, right? Can someone help here? Will co-washing get it out or am I gonna need a low-poo if I cave in and spray? The spray in question is Tresemme Tres Two Ultra Fine Mist, ingredients as follows:

SD Alcohol 40, Hydrofluorocarbon 152A, Octylacrylamide/Acrylates/Butylaminoethyl/Methacrylate Copolymer, VA/Crotonates/Vinyl Neodecanoate Copolymer, Aminomethyl Propanol, Dimethyl Stearamine, Fragrance

Please can someone weigh in here? Thanks!
CG since 2/23/10!

2B 3A mix, fine texture and high porosity at crown/bangs, normal elsewhere. I like protein!

Trying to grow out a short haircut.

WASH: Jessicurl Cleansing Cream (once every week or so)
CONDITION: Jessicurl Too Shea! or Aloeba Conditioner
STYLE: Jessicurl Gelebration Spray/Awe Inspiraling Spray

A lot of the ingredients in hairspray are drying eg the first ingredient above - you may want to look at other sparys eg from Aubrey organics or giovanni or just use the above one occasionally keeping an eye out for dryness in your hair. HTHicon7.gif

Thanks for the quick reply! :) Honestly, I'm not as concerned about the drying as I am potential buildup. Until I went CG 5 days ago, I used it very lightly on the bangs only. I'm gonna try to cut back as much as possible either way, but light spray is my go-to on bad hair days. It might even be a security blanket. Hmmmmm...

Anyways, I don't see anything that looks like a cone, but are there other ingredients that might be difficult to remove?

There doesn't seem to be anything obvious to me that would be difficult to remove, but sometimes even perfectly water solulable things build up on people. You'll just have to keep an eye on it, really. And I agree with curlyhairmichuk - the first ingredient is VERY drying, so you might want to watch out for signals of dryness.

I dont see any cones either - co washing should take it out (I think). as I said just watch for dryness which then would cause frizziness. But if you only use a tiny bit on your bangs (maybe once you use a gel that suits you you may not need it?)icon7.gif

Yay! Thanks guys. A little spray here and there should keep me in my comfort zone while I transition. My bangs are really really curly compared to the rest of my hair, so I keep them short and blow them out. Sometimes I spray if it's gonna be a long day and/or I'm getting frizzy. I'm gonna try to grow them out and see if I can get them natural, which shouldn't require spray. In the meantime it's nice to know I can sneak in an emergency spray and not require a harsh wash. I stashed some Kiss my Face low poo to use if I start building up, but methinks the V05 clarifying condish should take care of it. Woohoo!

Not yet - I've just got the normal [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curl-Junkie-CoffeeCoco-Curl-Creme-p-488.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curl-junkie-coffeecoco-curl-creme]CCCC[/buylink] and it works really well for me, so I haven't felt the need to try the lighter version. I think I've got fine hair that doesn't know it's fine - you certainly wouldn't know it from the routine! Next time I need a PJ hit, though, I might get a bottle and see how it is. I'm adoring the new CJ products.

thanks for that. I find the original just a tad too heavy. Maybe I'll give it a go.

For all I know, it may well be too heavy - but I think my hair needs the extra moisture so it's putting up with it. We'll see how it is in the summer.

you know what, you've just given me a light bulb moment! Because of the really cold weather just now I've been using a tiny bit of leave in which I don't normally, maybe I could try the CCCC i've got without leave in and it wont be too heavy just now mmmm - will def try later (well tomorrow as going out tonight so don't want to risk a disaster!) thanks!

Excellent! I use it with a leave-in, but my hair is worse than the Sahara at the best of times. Hope it works well!

I have never had a problem with hairspray drying my hair. I can't use hard holding gels so I am always looking for a hairspray that does not flatten my hair and has no silicones; this stuff looks like it may work!

When I first went CG (modified) I couldn't imagine NOT using hairspray! However, I now rarely use hairspray and when I do I use the Giovanni LA Hold - a gentler option. I do use a hard hold gel (BRHG) which gives me the hold I need.

I found that even CG safe hairsprays (Tresemme for example) were drying and did weird things to my curls. I think you'll find that as your curls get healthier and you figure out what works for you, you won't need the hairspray anymore.

I've been using an Herbal Essences spray gel (CG) and it's VERY strong, like hairspray. And I've had no issues at all with buildup.

Well, my PJ spirit came into play. Just ordered some of the Giovanni spray recommended. :) That and the Joigel and Joiwhip. I'm on the search for crown height and more volume! I do miss spraying my crown roots for lift, but haven't sprayed since November as I didn't want to risk build-up.

I feel that there's no substitute for a finishing hold - something that, after you put your hair in place, creates a web between your hairs, like hairspray. My hair has a strong forward-growing pattern and, if I don't use a spray, it completely covers my face by mid-day.

I don't like to fly with hairspray in my suitcase, so I usually buy something at my destination. I was in Vegas and I bought a bottle of Tresemme Naturals Finishing Spray. I am hooked! It is CG, smells great and my hairstyle held up through a walk in the rain.

Just want to second the Tresemme Naturals! I absolutely love this stuff! I tried it on a whim, and it was kind of hard for me personally to go from an aerosol to a pump bottle. However, now I can't go a day w/o this, it works wonderfully in my hair!

Would someone who owns the finishing spray mind posting the ingredients list? I'm not worried about it being CG, I'm mostly just curious. Can't find the list online anywhere.

    Thanks! :toothy5:

    Reading off the bottle...

alcohol, water, ester of PVM/MA copolymer, fragrance, aminomethyl propanol, disopropyl adipate, triethyl citrate, ascorbic acid, aloe leaf extract, orange peel extract

Of course "natural" doesn't really apply here, what with those polymers and all - but no hairspray does, at least to my knowledge. But at least it's CG.
