Uneven hair strand thickness?

qhsdsqhsds Posts: 63Registered Users
Does anyone else have this? I'm finding more and more hair strands that are uneven in thickness. Like the hair strand itself has thick parts and thinner parts. Does that mean my hair is unhealthy or is it normal?
It ruins the curl pattern :/

I thought you meant whether some hairs, individually, were thicker or thinner than others. I have that going on. Oddly, the gray hairs vary in thickness, just like my pigmented strands do -- I thought the gray ones would all be thicker.

I do have strands of hair that change in thickness. Doesn't seem to affect my curl pattern though. I sometimes wonder if that variation in the same strand might be due to when I was ill, changed my diet from normal (whatever normal is...), etc.

But I mean the latter. To be honest, it doesn't feel healthy at all

    Out of curiosity..

How's your diet/vitamin supplementation? Often times when I see people with hair/skin/nail issues its a matter of nutrition. The hair that comes from the scalp is largely dependent on your nutritional status since hair is made up of proteins (collagen, keratin fibers, etc) and your body needs nutrients to aid these processes in the body. The hair as it grows is reflective of whats going on in the inside...

a great example of this forensics. When someone is suspected of being poisoned with ..lets says Arsenic. They get a sample of the hair fiber and based on the section of strand (from root to tip) they can tell you how long you've been exposed. Why?? Cause you grow a certain amt per month and each part of the hair shows its age under the scope.

Anyway sorry for the blurb.. but just think about it.

Well, I was going through a anti-food period mid-last year where I hardly ever ate anything and lost 44 pounds (I'm only 16 lol) However, I've been eating normally ever since I had my buzz cut in December so I don't know if my diet last year had anything to do with it.

Thanks, both of you, by the way. :)

Yes it does.. you are likely still suffering from nutritional deficiency even now. I recommend starting with a multivitamin. You're 16 and robbing yourself in this way ( though losing weight) can stunt a lot of the processes going on in your body (which is still developing) and I doubt in light of this you were taking vitamins. Get some Flintstones and call it a day. If you're ambitious take a hair/skin/nails formula in addition to a multi.

Do you flat iron your hair? I used to see this often when I flat ironed. I rarely see it now my hair is healthier.

Nope, I don't flat iron my hair
And @ Naturalista, I take Vitamin C suppliments, is that enough?

Nope.. you need a multivitamin for your basic health.. and hair in particular needs B vitamins (ex: Biotin, panthenol), Vit A , E.

Take care of yourself girl.. buy a bottle of Flintstones (they're easier to take and taste better) and take one a day and call it a day. :) If you want a boost take an additional B vitamin complex.

OMG!! Sorry bout that... even more important for you to get nutrients since the growing male body has almost twice the needs of females. Your metabolism demands it. You should also make sure your supplement has Zinc as well.
