Those of you who wear high curly pontails

What do you use to hold your hair up into a ponytail that's not too tight and doesn't cause breakage?

I use the little black scuncis when I wear mine in a low pony, but have yet to find something for when I want to wear it up.

Please post pics of the type of barette you use if possible.

I use woven hair elastics (kind of like small scrunchies) sort of like the ones in this set - http://www.cookieskids.com/Product.aspx?l=00160007006101310000&p=ALM01232&a=googleps&mr:trackingCode=AE9869D9-6392-DE11-9EF7-0019B9C2BEFD&mr:referralID=NA
I get them at the Dollar Store.

I found some thick covered elastics at the drug store that weren't too tight. They were nice, but hard to find. They didn't pull my hair as tight as the normal (Goody) ones, but still held them back.

I love the look of the scrunchies, but I know they aren't "in" anymore ... I found some skinny ones on this site:
    http://www.hair-scrunchies.com/
They work really well and the woman who owns the business is excellent. I love them. I get the softness of a scrunchie, but not the look of the 80's.
Type: 3a fine & dense, with normal porosity, terrible product junkie
ROUTINE: LI, enhancer, gel, plop with Curlease towel, serum product (either CIAB or Gel-les'c), clip & diffuse.
Too many favourite products to list ... I finally have my routine that works and alot of products to choose from. My product stash is huge, but well loved !!!

Is there anything that isn't "rubber-band like"..something you don't have to tie or twist around the hair?

Those scuncis seem to pull my hair even if it doesn't have the metal band in the middle; and it doesn't "hang" the way it would if I just had something like a big clip to firmly hold it up.

    *if that makes any sense

Generally I put my hair up in a high ponytail with a scrunchie than I put a few bobby pins around the ponytail and than when there's enough pins to hold my hair, I take out the scrunchie of my hair. The pins keep it up for the entire day.

I am sorry for my english, I am hungarien. I hope you understand though... :)

Good question! I wear my hair in a high curly ponytail a lot for work, and am always worried about damage from the strain.

At least the ones I use don't cause breakage. They are: Scunci no-damage flat elastics, large size.
    http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=193486
They are gentle as far as hairbands go, and more professional-looking than a scrunchie. They don't cause breakage because they don't have any metal parts for hair to get caught in.

I also just started experimenting with these from Scunci. They are similar but round (not flat) and even larger, designed for thick hair:

A hair clip sounds even more ideal for work. Scunci has some promising-looking clips in their "no-slip grip" collection:

    chunky claw clip:

    medium octopus clip:

    I just use scrunchies. :)

I've tried using scrunchies, but they don't work for me on high ponytails (it's just like using a rubber band or a scunci which pulls my hair too tight). Unless it's just to hold my hair in a pineapple over night.

I'm wanting to wear it (securely) as a style.

I'm looking for something that isn't round..nothing that I have to wrap around or tie around (pulls and breaks my hair).

Something like a big clamp to just "hold it" there..if that makes any sense.:help:

These look like they could work. Do you guys remember the "cone" shaped hair barette we used to use in the early 90's to wear our hair up in high ponys. Mine was gold.

my head looks HUGE in pony tails, especially high up ones. Also, my hair gets all lumpy, I can't get it smooth either. :sad5: And my head looks extra huge if there isn't a part in my hair. Ugh the curse of having a big head.
