Using carbonated or salty water on curly hair? Hmm...

My colleague told me a few days ago about a professor in his Medical school who mentioned during his lesson that carbonated (fizzy, sparkling... or whichever the English term is) water helps define curls. I'm sooo trying this. My original thought was to simply pour some carbonated water over the hair at the very end of the washing routine. On the second thought, I guess that it could come handy to spray on hair, as a mist?

Now, what about salty water? I stumbled upon this recipe for curl-defining spray: 1l spring water and 2 TBSP sea salt. It should give you that "surfer-curl", or so they say... I'm a bit worried about this one. I like how my hair curls through its length when I'm on the seaside, but will that salt do damage to the hair?

What are your thoughts and experiences on these?

Magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) is used in products as a curl enhancer, so you should be ok with that. My hair likes it, but I know there are others on the board that don't like it; in the end your hair has the final say.

As for carbonated water, I have no idea. I haven't heard this before bt it sounds interesting. Hopefully someone will know! I don't think a mister sounds like a good idea, seems like it would loose the carbonation quickly that way.

I make a spray with Himalayan crystal salt; it is not drying and gives me more body or volume.

You must let us know how it goes with the carbonated water. However... wouldn't it be kind of expensie to buy a bottle for each time you wash your hair? (Not to mention kind of waste-y...)

HeatherOkay, Where do you get hymalayan crystal salt, and how do you use it? What are the measurements, and in what order do you apply it, with other products?
