Happy Hand Exfoliant

say goodbye to dry, cracked hands. Even if your gloves haven't been doing their job this winter, this easy-to-make exfoliant will slough off all those dead skin cells. Plus, it cleanses and moisturizes, leaving hands soft and smooth.
1 ounce ground almonds
1 teaspoon clear honey
2 teaspoons walnut or sunflower oil
1 teaspoon lemon juice

1. Mix all ingredients together into a thick paste.

2. Rub a heaping teaspoon all over the hands for two to three minutes and rinse off. Use whenever your hands need some extra TLC.

Peach-and-Honey Mask

This revitalizing peach and honey mask is almost good enough to eat. But what you'll really love about it is how it leaves your skin feeling soft and supple.
·1 large peach or nectarine, skinned
·3 teaspoons honey
·A pinch of lecithin powder or 2 tablespoons yogurt

Mash the peach and honey together, add a little lecithin powder or 2 tablespoons yogurt until you have a workable paste. Pat evenly over your face and neck and around the eyes. Lie back and relax for about 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, pat dry, then tone and moisturize as you normally would.

Apple-Pectin Toner

Apples have been used in beauty products for centuries. And thanks to a high concentration of vitamins A and C and potassium, when applied as a facial toner, apple pectin can sooth and refresh all skin types. Please note: If you have especially dry or sensitive skin, reduce the amount of witch hazel in the toner.
·1 apple, cut up with peel, seeds removed
·1/2 cup water
·1/4 cup witch hazel

1. Place the cut-up apple in a small saucepan with the water. Bring to a boil and remove from the heat.

2. Allow the mixture to cool completely, then strain out the apple chunks. Stir in the witch hazel and pour into a clean container.

3. To use, spray or apply to skin using a clean cotton ball.

Eve's Apple Rinse

If you think your hair is starting to lose its shine, try whipping up a batch of this hair-clarifying rinse. It will help restore your scalp's pH level and get rid of build-up from hairsprays and gels. Please note: If you have a really dry or sensitive scalp or hair, use half the amount of apple cider vinegar.
·1 large apple, peeled and cut into small pieces
·2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
·2 cups water

1. Mix together all ingredients in a blender or food processor set on "high."

2. Pour the mixture through a strainer into a clean container, discarding all solids.

3. To use, pour over your hair after shampooing as a final rinse.

4. Massage through your hair and rinse thoroughly with cool water.

Hair So Soft Conditioner

This not only leaves hair feeling great, a family favorite, but most of the ingredients are simple to find. It leaves hair shiny and soft and tangle free. It makes a great gift because the ingredients are all natural. They are also a great craft show item.

This recipe calls for:

2 teaspoons of Sweet Almond Oil

2 teaspoons of Avocado Oil

2 teaspoons of Olive Oil

2 egg yolks

3 tablespoons of liquid honey

For Blonds: 2 tablespoons of lemon juice....

Stir all of the above ingredients thoroughly.

Massage enough to wet hair into your scalp.

Leave on for 15 minutes or so (my wife left it on for upward of 20 when her hair was long)

Shampoo your hair after and rinse well.

This acts like a hot oil treatment and is great for your hair You can keep it in a small bottle if you make a larger batch and give it as a gift. Makes sure to tag accordingly.

Carrots are chock full of beta-carotene and provide the skin with much needed vitamin A. Instead of spending a fortune on treatments from a dermatologist, consider this nourishing mask:

Some homemade toothpastes can be used as effective cleansing agents for teeth and can promote general oral hygiene. Try the following:
    * Cut a fresh strawberry in half and rub your teeth and gums with it. Leave on for 15 minutes, then add some warm water and gently brush. This is not only a good cleaner but promotes health of the gums.
    * Take lemon rind and rub your teeth and gums, massaging your upper gums downward and your lower gums upward. This helps to remove plaque and tartar.

Yield: 2 ounces, enough for one facial mask
You will need the following: 2 1/2 pounds of sugar 6 lemons cotton strips (you can purchase these at many drug stores near wax kits). Tongue depresser (purchase at craft store) **You can cut this into an individual application by using 1 cup of sugar and juice of 1/2 a lemon** Place the sugar in a large saucepan. Add the juice of 6 lemons. Stirring constantly, heat over low flame until sugar is a dark brown (carmel) color. Quickly pour into storage container (I use recycled, disposable containers because this is definitely hard to clean up. The best are thick plastic containers that can be microwaved (thin plastic will melt!). To sugar your legs: 1. Let sugaring cool until it is warm and spreadable, but not too uncomfortable (hot) to handle. (In the meantime, it is a good idea to tackle cleaning the sauce pan before it sets!) If the sugaring is too cool, you can microwave it - but stir it completely, and check it often! 2. Test the warmth of the sugaring on a small part of your leg. If it is not too hot, it is ready to use. If it is unspreadable, heat it up a bit. 3. When sugaring is at the correct consistancy (the same as molasses), spread thin narrow strips of sugar on leg, spreading from knee to ankle. Immediately cover the sugaring with cotton strip. Repeat until the leg is covered with cotton strips. (I like to pull them all at one time, after covering my leg with strips. My friend does one or two at a time and then repeats until she has done her entire leg. It is your choice.) 4. When cool to the touch and set (after about 10 minutes depending on thickness) yank the strips beginning from ankle and pull towards knee. Do it quickly! 5. You can store the sugaring in the refrigerator for a few weeks. Hints: 1. Test, test, test! Test the warmth of the sugaring on a sensitive part of your leg. It is easy to burn yourself! Also, test the strip (by pulling a small part) before yanking. You don't want to do it again! 2. Always pull in the opposite direction that the sugaring was applied. In other words, if you apply down, pull up! 3. Don't apply too thickly. It will pull the hair (Ouch!) but it will not remove it.

Mash one half cup of fresh melon (cantaloupe, honeydew, etc) in a bowl and apply to clean, dry skin. Let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with cool water and finish with your favorite moisturizer. Melon is full of natural alpha hydroxy acids and vitamins, which leave skin glowing and radiant! For best results, use the "melon treatment" once weekly.
