2010 12 week Deep Conditioning Challenge - WE'RE DONE!!!!!

chenajchenaj Posts: 352Registered Users
I was lurking over at LHCF and saw that they had a DC challenge last year.

It was to help encourage and support people to DC becasue we all get lazy about it sometimes. They had to DC a min of twice a week ( some ladies were even DC'ing 3 times a week:shock::shock:).

Should we get one started?

I'm not very good at DC'ing, i get bored and rinse it all off after 10 min, so a challenge would help me towards being more consistent and maybe even sit with the DC for 3hrs.

I was thinking I could aim for 3 times a week. I could do a homemade DC (e.g honey, EVOO) an AO DT ( moisture and protein on alternate weeks) and an aryuvedic paste + DC. If I don't actually manage to DC 3 times a week, i will at least do 1 of the 3 treatments.

So, what do we think ladies, do we have a challenge?

Ok, we are on!

Here are the rules
1) You must try to deep condition at least once or twice a week for the first 6 weeks; then twice to three times a week for the last 6 weeks.

2) Post starting pic and desired outcome by Feb 1st;

3) Suscribe to thread;

4) List the deep conditioners that you use/or will be using either exclusivly, or on rotation, explain how you use them and the results you get using each one (e.g. faster growth, less fairy knots, etc) . This is good info for newbies too!

5) Post results pic by May 1st

It's hard work deep conditioning twice a week, so let's keep each other motivated!!

NEW RULE -

6)You don't have to wash your hair to DC!

Wednesday 21st April 2010 - The challenge is over ladies!!! Thanks to all who participated - will post challengers list soon.
hair type - definately 4a

wash - any baby shampoo

conditioning styler - homemade blend with shea, coconut, avocado mango, plam, castor, almond and essential oils

    I will definitely join you. I try to DC at least 1x a week. But my hair really flourished when I was DC'ing 2x a week last winter. My hair is so dry and brittle this winter, something has got to give. So I think a DC challenge will give me the propper motivation. Thanks for starting this!!!:thumbleft:

    Great idea !
    I decided a few months ago I'll do a DT every two weeks but haven't been making the time for it.
    I won't have time to do a DT 3 times a week, but I'm up to a one DT a week challenge.
    I think there should be some little rules though, like subscribing to this thread which will remind us of the challenge, and posting after each DT, what DT we did and what were the results, that way we'll all learn about new DTs.

    Can you do this with twist in your hair? I just put in twist almost a week ago, and i plan on leaving them in for about 2 weeks, then taking them out and putting them back in. Will this challenge work for me? I really want to try it. And what should i use for a DC? Or can i just use regular conditioner and then add stuff to it to make it more nuturing for my hair? I feel like im asking so many questions!

    I'm sure you can DC with twists in - you can DT with braid extentions so why not twists. You'll have to decide whats best for you and your hair when it comes to a DC. We can all learn from each other, so it will be interesting to see what people come up with and the results of their experimentation!

    I'm down. I have started washing/styling my hair every two weeks but what ever braided or twisted style I have I will slather some DC on there. I may get a wig cause I will not be rebraiding or twisting every couple of days. When it gets frizzy, I will put on my hair hat. May is my birthday and I have to retake my driver license pic. I would love to retain all of my length and have fabulously large fro.

    I am trying to use up my stash so I will be intermittently using giovani's TTTT with avocado oil added, AOHSR, Elasta QP dpr-11, Silicon mix, 10 en 1 and aussie 3 min moist deeeep conditioner. I think that's all the DCs I have but there may be more

    Does that really work well? I have been looking at that on bluebeez.com. 60oz for 22.95. Can't beat that.

    Sounds like fun! I'll join.

    I will only be DC'ing 1x per week since that's how often I wash my hair. I use AOHSR conditioner, I put a plastic cap on and sit underneath my hooded dryer for about 20mins. Does that count as a DC???

    Ok ladies,
    I have amended the first rule: 1-2 DC's for the first 6 weeks and 2-3 DC's for the last 6 weeks.

    Most of us DC once a week anyway so, it's more fun and a lot more challenging to change up our routines, plus the benfits will surpass anything you can get from DCing once a week.

    Lets give ourselves time to warm up to the idea of adding an extra DC to our weekly routines. The first 6 weeks are "taking it easy weeks" the last 6 weeks are the race for the finish line so, we have to put all our gusto into it!!

    I have also added a new rule - You dont have to wash your hair to DC. Just slap on your DC, do you thing and rinse it out when your ready!

    So happy to see so many of us up for the challenge!
