Silicone-free conditioners from Tresemme (Tresemme Naturals)

Has anyone else noticed these in the stores? Looks like Tresemme is coming out with a "natural" line with some silicone-free conditioners. I always found Tresemme really moisturizing before I was CG so I'm interested in trying these out. They have one for moisture and one for volume, and I might pick one up when I go grocery shopping tonight.

I don't see them listed on their website and I haven't seen ads for them, so I'm wondering if they're just testing them out in certain markets. I have some other conditioners that I'd like to get through before cracking open a new bottle, but maybe I'll do a test run and see how they work.

i saw them in ulta the other day and was intrigued. they also have a 'lower sulfate' shampoo line. it has ammonium laureth sulfate, which is supposedly less harsh? or, at least according to them, anyway.

I haven't seen any of the cone free conditioner, but I also used to use tresemme everyday until going CG, so I'd try a no cone version if I saw it!
New to CG so still have a lot to figure out!

Those look nice. The only part that concerns me is the "alcohol" and the isopropyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol is just rubbing alcohol. Can't imagine that'd be moisturizing, but maybe since it's so near the bottom of the list it won't be a problem? Let us know how they work for you!
  • lizzlebelizzlelizzlebelizzle Posts: 287Registered Users
Yeah I was a little concerned about that too. I wonder what the purpose is? Are they using it as a preservative?
  • Laura LeeLaura Lee Posts: 1,828Registered Users
Did some more digging on the isopropyl alcohol. According to an article by the CurlChemist, it's one of the drying alcohols. Still, it doesn't seem like it would be a huge problem being at the bottom of the list. The plain "alcohol" is just ambiguous. No idea what that might be

The article talks about what its purpose in the formula may be:

Without checking my jar, I think this is the same alcohol in pink boots. It doesn't bother my hair at all but I don't use it on a daily basis.

Okay -- so I gave the Moisturizing formula a try and here's my take.

First and foremost -- keep in mind that I have porous, 3b hair. My hair sucks in moisture like crazy, but it also loses moisture throughout the day. What works for me might not work for someone with non-porous hair. When I showered I lowpoo'd first with Come Clean, because Sunday is my once a week lowpoo. It also helped me judge this conditioner because my hair hasn't been too dry lately (cause I bought a humidifier for my room at night) and I wanted to judge how this conditioner moisturizes without the interference of leftover moisture or buildup.

Consistency: Thick but not extremely thick. It's not runny like VO5, but will make a thick puddle in your hand rather than a GVP CB-esque blob. Similar to the consistency of Suave Naturals, I'd say.

Slip: Holy cow! This is what stood out to me most about this conditioner. I think it's fair to say that the slip could be called "extreme." My hair was a little rough from the lowpoo but when this stuff hit my hair it became extremely slick. I feel like this stuff would be a great detangler if my hair really needed it (which today it didn't). My wide-toothed comb seemed to zoom through my hair moreso than most other conditioners I've used.

Moisturizing: The jury's still out on this one. After I rinsed it out my hair still felt very slick. I'm now letting it airdry without any product in to see how this moisture holds up throughout the day. Usually by nighttime my ends feel very dry, so I'll let you guys know tomorrow whether or not this happened.

Scent: Light scent, not particularly reminiscent of anything except for hair products. Smelled more "salon-y" than you might expect from a product being advertized as natural. Not too strong or linger-y.

Well, there ya go! Hopefully this will help people decide whether they want to try this stuff out or not. Personally, I like the idea of being able to pick up a BIG bottle of CG conditioner at a drugstore -- this bottle is the size of Tresemme's other conditioners. And who knows, maybe it will make an excellent cowash or a detangler (as I mentioned above).

All right -- it's only 8pm and already the ends of my hair are feeling dry. I think this conditioner is not quite moisturizing enough for me -- hence the "lightweight conditioning" they advertise on their bottle. I think this may be a good option for the summertime, but it's not quite heavy enough to cut it as a winter condish. Maybe some other people on these boards who get weighed down or greasy easily might find this to be a good option.

*ears perk up at lightweight conditioning*

I haven't seen these anywhere. We've got the new Suave Naturals schtuff, but I haven't seen the new tresemme naturals. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Oooh thanks to the walgreens site -- its listed as being at the walgreens near my house. Will def have to try it out.

I used the volumizing conditioner (sweet orange) for the first time this morning and so far I'm really digging it. My hair is super soft and shiny today, and curls are holding up well, though a bit less clumpy than usual. I was really expecting this to be terrible, so I'm pleasantly surprised.

FYI, Ulta has all of the the stuff in the new Tresseme lines (Naturals and Fresh) buy one get one half off this week. I also got the foam shampoo, which I tried last night. Definitely made my hair feel cleaner and softer.

I keep looking for this everytime I go to CVS, but it's always out of stock. Are there more CG people in my area than I thought?!

When I bought mine at Walgreens, I actually bought the last one. The lady said that the store only received 3 of each. They may be doing this just to see if the "new" produc sells well before sending out a bunch at one time. Hopefully this will be a great seller and they will not discontinue it. I haven't gone back to see if they have any more in, but I'll check next time I'm in.

I've tried the more moisture conditioner of the naturals line. I love it! I use it was a cowash and a rinse out and a leave in. It makes my hair feel so clean and moisturized. Unfortunately I left my one bottle at home so I drove all over my college town to CVS and walmart. Walmart doesn't even carry it yet, and CVS has the shampoo, but never the conditioner. I've only been able to find it at Walgreens, and I don't even know where the one that's supposed to be near my college is. No one knows for certain, they just know its a little far out. I'm going to grab some more bottles when I go home this weekend. Hopefully there's a sale going on because its about $6.50 a bottle....

My CVS had the "lower sulfates" natural shampoo, and an empty space next to it where the conditioner should've been. :angry3:

Finally uploaded the pictures I took of the bottles. This is probably excessive, but I couldn't find pics of them last time I looked.

This is for those of you that haven't seen them in stores yet. I think I'm gonna break out the moisturizing one again pretty soon and give it another go.
