Economical alternative to Mop Top? Deva AnGEL vs. Arc AnGell?

nordiccurlgirlnordiccurlgirl Posts: 3Registered Users
Recently tried Mop Top Anti-Frizz Gel per encouragement of a curly stylist and was very happy with results but this stuff is insanely expensive. Recently went CG and had been experimenting with other styling gels. Tried [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCare-Arc-AnGell-p-567.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacare-arc-angell]Deva Arc AnGell[/buylink] and had problems with consistency in getting the results I wanted - tended to straighten my 3a hair too much (but sometime my hair turned out great). I had greater consistency of good results with the Mop Top product.

Any 2c/3a types out there who have found styling gels similar to Mop Top Anti-Frizz gels that would make a good substitute at a lower cost?

What's the difference between [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCurl-Angell-p-57.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacurl-angell]Deva AnGEL[/buylink] vs. [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCare-Arc-AnGell-p-567.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacare-arc-angell]Arc AnGell[/buylink]? Would AnGEL be a reasonable substitute for Mop Top Anti-Frizz Gel? (ie light hold and antifrizz without straightening 2c/3a hair?) Deva products are still very spendy but ounce for ounce, they can be purchased for significantly less $ than Mop Top gel.

    bump ...

I would also love to know because I can't get Mop Top or Deva products here in Canada ... any drugstore gels that would be comparable?

    Haven't tried Mop Top

The [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCare-Arc-AnGell-p-567.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacare-arc-angell]Arc Angell[/buylink] is supposed to have more hold. The regular did nothing for my hair, nothing. It was like water with build up. I really don't like Deva that much. Their conditioner is good, but the products just didn't do much for me.

I really like Jessicurl, a lot. I started with the sample pack and I've repurchased and want more, but like you, I'm always looking for cheaper solution.

A gel I also use is AG Liquid Effects. It has more crunch to it but it's thin and disperses easily. It's best in really wet hair.

Here is a list you might try

Leave in's: Aveda Be Curly, Jessicul RR and CC, quarter and nickel amounts, AG liquid effects, KCCC (forever to dry), leaving behind the Aquage defining gel

Gels tend to either make my hair frizzy and dry-looking (AnGel) or, strangely, soft and floopy (LA Looks Sport). But Tresemme's ultra hold curl gel (I can't remember the specific product name) is awesome on my hair -- nicks frizz, gives me soft (but not floopy) curls, and loads of shine. Plus it's cheap and CG-friendly. :glasses1:

Is it the TRESemme Curl Care Bouncy Curls extra hold defining gel? I am using that along with my homemade FSG on my hair right now, thats all the product I use at the moment. I was trying out other stylers but I like what this combo is doing for me!

For those of you who HG the Tresemme curls gel, drugstore.com is having a buy one get one half off on it. I didn't get it (I got the Joico Gel and the JoiWhip, same deal, half off one).
