so i turned 60 in november. it's only a number but it is a BIG number. i am still hiking and swimming and playing music and hanging with the dogs and working and having fun like always. my hair is still long and curly, i am still coloring it tho my face is getting older looking for sure. i am not really freaking out about it unless i fall down and something really hurts (like my knees). still working w personal trainer and still have weight to lose....

Yep, I'll be 61 next month. I decided to grow old gracefully, kicking and screaming the whole way. I color my hair, exercise, watch my diet and feel pretty good except for some minor tinges now and then. It kinda freaks me to look in the mirror and see my mother, though.

No new pics even though my hair is now shoulder length when wet. I hate my pictures.

I am. I turned 63 in November. I'm also growing out my salt and pepper hair from chin length to now below shoulder. And everyone says it looks better than when I had it short.

I didn't realize that there were other older women here. I mostly lurk since I seem to be a thread killer. lol
    What a WONDERFUL day!!

wow cool!! so glad to see fellow 60s here --i guess we're all trying to stay young as possible, fighting encroaching age. we could start a threadkiller thread.:) i am finding that i am feeling freer than ever in terms of worrying about how i look or what people think of me. yes i color my hair am glad it is healthy now thanks to CG (5 yrs). i would love to see all your pictures--latetocurls your PW has expired on fotki. i am certainly noticing the wrinkling of my face (i love the sun still) and the skin changes on the body. i was imagining myself w short gray hair and i am not ready. the other issue is accomplishing goals in life. realizing that at this age many people are diminishing in their energy level and ability to do things. it will catch up to most of us eventually, so how to allot the time we have? always a question

interesting article about people over 85 doing these awesome adventures!! like for me it is probably too late to do any serious mountaineering but i did climb mt washington at age 57. everest or denali tho is most likely beyond me. thats ok. for others it may be writing a book or learning a musical instrument or craft, taking college classes, new language....anyway food for thought....

Hi, Banjo! I just turned 58 so I am not so far from 60. Weird to think of that being the next milestone. My friend who is a couple years younger than I am just told me she's retiring this year -- that's weird too.

I am! 62 to be exact! Coloring my hair, wearing cool stuff and basically ignoring the dismal stuff that fashion stylists try to box us into. In excellent health and hit my gym 5 times a week, and keeping to a predominantly raw vegetarian diet. This is anti-aging from the inside, seriously, especially with green smoothies as a daily(or nearly-daily anyway) part of one's diet. I have some pix from some different times in the last couple of years over on my Facebook page:

They don't show my CG hair though - the last ones were taken in August 2009,a couple of months before I went CG.

Caramix -- your Facebook link to your photo isn't working.

I just turned 65 this week and went NCurly one year ago. I always wore my hair very, very short (easy to wash and wear, being so althletic) but found I had some natural curl and have been growing it and getting it cut by a Deva Curly Girl certified stylist. I have fine hair, loose curls. It has been fun to be curly -- but wearing a bicycle helmet over the curls everyday is terrible. When I take the helmet off it is a matted mess and hard to revive the curls with spritzing (use either water, [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/DevaCurl-Angell-p-57.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=devacurl-devacurl-angell]Deva AnGel[/buylink]/water mix, or Deva Mister-Right). I'll post some pics soon as I get back from this road trip I am on.

    Hi Sarabeth!

Try this link and see if it works - the page with photos should come up:

If it doesn't work, I'm not sure what else to do - good luck. All those pix were taking before going CG, and over the last couple years.

i find the anticipation worse than the actuality of it, now that i am 2 months past the BIG BIRTHDAY i am much more relaxed since i did not turn into some horrible wrinkly pumpkin at the moment of becoming 60. i've gone to deva in white plains which was fun and much closer than nyc--i remember us having a talk about that some time ago.

I just turned 65 Mon. I've been cg since 2000. I even converted my curly stylist & her curly family! Love this site. I've learned so much. Yes an old dog can learn. I haven't had the courage to go gray yet, but I love to look at all you beautiful gray foxy ladies. My hair seems to be getting straighter, but figuring out how much condishioner to leave in is a constant challenge.

    Hello

I will be 63 in June . Your hair is gorgeous. Tried to grow mine long awhile back but it made my already long face long longer and drawn. A bob is what I find to be the best cut for me. Just went naturally gray about a year ago. It grew in kinda weird with the gray mostly on the sides but it is alot less costly and no more roots. Hair in is better condition too I am a3b. What are you? Interested in knowing what makeup is best for over 60 gals like us. Finding that less is better.

makeup--not issue for me-i dont wear it. saw an old pic where my skin and teeth look better but i think my hair is better now! well, time to play in the blizzard with the dogs....

Banjocurl, your beautiful long locks inspire me to go ahead & grow my curls long again & not buy into the older-must go shorter myth. I'm trying to grow out an inverted bob, & the back hair still has very little curl. I'm a 2/3A, thin hair, pourous, colored, hair that loses curl when too short, would be mostly gray w/o color. I've been cg 10 yrs.,& pj since then. I'm 65:wave:

I too am thinking of going natural. Right now, from what i can tell, i am a salt and pepper stage. not all gray and not all brown. I like highlights as it looks good with my skin type. Not sure what to do.
I straighten, prodded and poked my hair all my life to be straight. One morning i just woke up and said enough is enough. For 5 months now i have been curly and I love it. Still experimenting on what products are best for me. As i age, i am enoying life more....its a wonderful experience.

Hi there you lovely older gals, so happy to see you sharing your curly hair stories. Just joined this past week and got a Deva cut Sat. I have been growing out my very, very short curly hair because I never had a style that suited my curls (2b). Only stylists I could find didn't know how to cut curly hair and I ended up looking like I was 12. So I just kept it short, used the blow dryer and I was done. I decided to grow it out but it was way too flat for my age. My hair is very fine, tried the clips on top but still not enough fullness. I finally checked around and found a Deva stylist near my home. Had gone to Quidad in Nov but too far 1-1/2 hours away. They gave me the rake and shake hair cut, still not for my age. Found the Deva stylist who cut it shorter, layers and gave me some fringe on my forehead. I think it is a good cut. I want to enjoy my curls and work with them and not against them. I love all the pics and want to see more. I'm happy to see you mature woman are loving your hair and proud of it. I still color my hair, not ready for the all gray yet but some day. My son is getting married in May and would love to "glamorize" my do since it will be a pretty formal wedding. Any ideas. Wish I had a picture but not sure how to do that yet. Thanks for the help. Hugs Kathy

There is a group on facebook called Going Gray Looking Great and a book with the same title. They say that silicone is not bad for hair and that it will increase shine. This is not what we CG's say, is it? Any thoughts on this?

Some people like silicones, some don't. Back when I still used shampoo I also used a silicone spray many times a day. My hair just kept getting more and more dry. I finally learned it was due to sulfates and silicones, so I stopped using both. But others use and love both so it just depends on the person and the hair.

I'll be 65 in July. It's hard to wrap my mind around that.

I think gray hair suits some people's skin tones much better than mine. I've tried going gray and decided I liked it colored much better. If you have pink skin tones or darker skin tones I think the gray looks terrific. I have very pale ivory skin with freckles and the gray makes me look washed out.

On a good curl day the curls make me look younger than if I straighten. On a bad curl day I just look a mess! (sob).
    2/c Coarse hair med. density.
    Highly porous. Color over grey.
I love all the Curl Junkie products. Still experimenting with gels and curl creams. Still hoping for 2nd day hair....

yes, i like the silver/white hair with the blue eyes and pink cheeks look. i think on me it would not be good tho esp since my hair is not all white yet. it is great to hear from all of you dazzling 60something gals. lately i am thinking of cutting my hair. then i think not. it is a bit thin in the crown area and sometimes looks crappy from the side or the back tho it looks ok in the front. my husband likes the long low ponytail look. anyway i am not thrilled with my hair right now tho i can have some good days. i wish i had the real THICK hair, oh well....if this is my worst problem i am very lucky :)
