Does hummus give you gas?/Eating heathy foods without issues.

I can't believe that magazines such as Everyday Food suggest vegetable sticks and hummus as a lunch snack. Um...wouldn't that make a person gassy?

Same with all of these recipes including beans, chick peas, garlic, broccoli, etc.

The only veggies that I seem to be able to eat without getting gas are potatoes, leafy greens, tomatoes, and any kind of squash. How do you make a lunch for work every day with that boring list? I get these mags for ideas, and none of them are appropriate. How do people eat all of this stuff? Why can't I?

I've eaten beans all my life, therefore I have no issues and never have with beans. If you increase your intake, your body will adjust.

Legumes are only likely to give you gas if your body is not used to them. I can eat hummus with broccoli dippers and black bean soup for lunch and not suffer an ill consequences. If you don't normally eat a lot those types of foods, start slowly and acclimate your body. It will get used to it and eventually thank you for it.

The amount you would eat for a snack would be unlikely to give you gas.

As for the rest of it, as the others said, your body should eventually get used to eating most veggies/ legumes.

I agree. And what is UP with black bean soup?? Lately I've been eating that and lentil soup like there's no tomorrow.

I don't know...I've been eating these things for some time...

Maybe there's some other issue at work...I'm not quite regular these days...

I think we have to remember that everyone farts. It's even normal and healthy.

I am HUMMUS crazy! And I haven't had any gas issues from it. But then again.. I've been eating hummus for many years so maybe my body has adjusted ?

I know a lot of people do get gassy from broccoli..

I guess I haven't eaten enough Hummus to effect me like that.
I do know that one summer I was trying to eat healthier. Ate Soy burgers and drank soy milk...that was the worst gassy experience for me. I had to quit after a few weeks. It might've been healthier than beef burgers and dairy milk, but my body (bloated gassy feel) and my nose couldn't take it anymore.
That's right, I said it! I wear scrunchies!!
