3b just feeling overwhelmed..any advice with the products I have?

NJTNJT Posts: 57Registered Users
So I am probably being impatient, but I keep trying products and am just not happy with the results. It's so hard to not run out and try something new that people are raving about! Before I go over the deep end can anyone give advice/routines based on the products I have listed? I co-wash with V05 strawberries and cream and have a microfiber towel. (Oh, and Jane Carter Nourish and Shine coming in the mail ). I usually scrunch products in and let airdry. I am willing to hear about new products too, but would like to give the ones I have a chance.

I should also say that I think I am b/w a 3a and 3b.

[buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]:tightened my curl too much and too crunchy.

With the ones below I just get a lot of frizz.

Dep Gel (Blue)
Tresemme Curl Hydration (CG?)
Jessicurl light sample kit
Aussie Catch the Wave leave in and conditioner (not CG? I would prefer to use just CG products)
Aussie Sprunch Spray

Thanks so much for any thoughts!

    cursewordscursewords!!

I had a ton typed out and IE crashed. *sigh*

I am 3b and I use the Conditioner only method with Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition conditioner.
I am short on cash so I have not had the money to try too many other conditioners.
I do get crunch with this but it scrunches right out no problem. I don't even use any pomade or anything. I just flip my head upside down and SOTC.

I do have Herbal Essence Totally Twisted gel but I hardly use it. It does work and smells great!

Co-wash Suave Naturals Wild Cherry Blossom
Leave-in Suave Naturals Wild Cherry Blossom (Just a little before adding La Bella Max Hold Plus Volume Styling Gel.)
Just bought Olive Miracle Leave-in Conditioner to try. I used it to scrunch out the crunch and it smells wonderful. (05Jun2012)

Thanks CurlyCarrieS! (and thanks for trying again even after ie crashed!!).

This sounds like a product to try..maybe keeping it simple is better for me..off to buy after work today!

    Any more thoughts welcome!

Thank you so much for the conditioner rec..I love it!
A plus that it's priced well and found at Target :).

In the past I used a gel over but that seemed to make my hair stringier. Today I went without gel and just left the conditioner as a leave in and it seems to be working pretty well..maybe keeping it simple is the way to go for now!

Don't know your texture and porosity or where you live. I live outside of Philly. Since it got cold and dry, I've been using a heavier rinse out and leave in, and a jelly type product, no gel. My curls stay all day and minimal frizz.

My hair likes the more natural products. I cowashed for six months but hair prefers cleansing with natural soap bars.

I live in the same area as you kathymack so that must be it. I will try to go heavier on the conditioning.

    Thanks!

You need to identify your hair's texture and porosity--that will help us identify products or types of ingredients to use. Personally, I found the Jane Carter N & S too heavy for my hair--and I use a lot of heavy products!

If you're low to medium porosity, protein helps a lot with frizz. It's all a balance of moisture and protein. Once you discover your hairs attributes and what it's like, it's easier not to jump on every product "bandwagon." (This is said by someone who rotates about 20 products at any one time.) You'll be able to find people who have hair like yours and "stalk" them on the boards. If their hair likes something, yours might like it, too.

    Hi!
I'm a 3b/3c and I have a heck of a time finding something that doesn't strip my color out and be gentle.I'm looking at going the natural route, I started using a Castille soap for babies on my hair. It has all the good oils in it and none of those crap additives. My scalp's not used to it yet and it's a bit itchy, but I was warned about that since the PH is different. Right now I'm doing a conditioner at wash and a rinse on the 2nd/3rd day or else my curls go flat. I'm part middle eastern and my hair gets frizzy at the drop of a hat.

I've been using mostly drugstore bought stuff until September. I went to a natural body care store called Bliss soaps in Seattle, he had this custard stuff that was a miracle, a serious miracle. I'm Canadian and I can't have it sent to me so I've tried a few products but haven't found really anything close to the custard. The closest so far has been KMS Curl Up Control Creme and at $25 for 5oz, my hair goes to the middle of my back so it's far to expensive and I use up a bottle in two weeks.. I can't afford to stay on this stuff...

Anyone with coarse curly hair looking for natural products too?

Thanks for the advice. That does sound like a smarter way to try out new products. I think I am medium texture and porosity.

I've been looking at the Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Conditioner and I've been wondering if it has any protein? The product seems great. I know it has extracts....would they be considered as protein though? I'm not so good at recognizing protein yet.
Btw, you're Curls LOOK amazing!! =D

    Hi guys,

Thought I'd give an update on a combo that has made me pretty happy with my hair lately :)

    Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition conditioner.
[buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Curl-Keeper-p-28.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curly-hair-solutions-curl-keeper]Curl Keeper[/buylink], [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/AG-Recoil-p-24.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=ag-hair-cosmetics-recoil-curl-activator]AG Re:coil[/buylink], and Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee and plop with a floursack towel. Some days I'll use CJCC instead.

I have never said anything was a Holy Grail, but [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Curly-Hair-Solutions-Curl-Keeper-p-28.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=curly-hair-solutions-curl-keeper]curl keeper[/buylink] is pretty close! This could all also be due to other factors such as healthier hair and warmer weather, but I am still happy.

Still experimenting here and there, but this is my go to combo right now.

Thanks for listening when I was overwhelmed and for all of the advice!

Just wanted to give an update in case it helps anyone else: today I raked through curl keeper (sectioned off my hair into 4 parts, before I would just rake in the shower) and scrunched with ag re:coil (with dry hands), used some clips for lift, and pretty much let the curls air dry--happy so far.
  • Laney1Laney1 Posts: 308Registered Users
That's been my routine too for about 3 years now!. I use Devacurl OneC as my leave-in , then section off to apply Curl Keeper, then scrunch in some AG Re:coil. Clips for lift and then diffuse. Everytime I venture off to try other new products, I'm always right back to this combo!

So, I'm usually just wasting my money trying new things, but hey, when I hear something works good for someone, I usually can't help myself and try it!!

Might try BRHG someday,,,, see, there i go again!:toothy8:

My hair gets super curly too when I use KCCC haha, but that's why I use it ;) Glad to hear you found a product regimen that is working for you! Another thing to try some time if you're bored is FSG (flax seed gel). It's completely natural and it's super-cheap to make. Yeah, it's something you make at home. There are many threads here w/info about it.

Anyway, it's always good to hear a success story. Good for you :D

Thanks! I had a cut done recently that made a big difference too.

I tried FSG before but may try it again now that I have a better idea of how to use it - Thanks for the reminder!
