Asian Hair

Hey curlies,
I have noticed that the vast majority of asian girls have beautiful hair. I spoke to a friend of mine today who is Sikh and asked him which oils are used in his culture to condition hair and he told me Mustard oil, but also mentioned it is bright green. :?
Obviously I dont want to put anything with lots of pigment on my red hair (predicting a disaster there).
So does anyone know of any other oils which are traditionally used and how to use them???

i know in india and other countries in that region people traditionally used coconut oil - there is a paper on this
really it might depend on what type of asian hair you are referring to..... it can be anything from type 4-curls hair to the really coarse strong straight and shiny hair that a significant portion from eastern asia (eg china) might have - to be honest i don't know what they use
i know a chinese friend told me that she never used to use shampoo on her hair before coming to US - just the regular soap (NB this was someone who moved to the US approximately 1989/1990) maybe everyone's into shampoo now.....

a lot of women use coconutoil in their hair, a lot of NCmembers do that to.
My hair doesnt like it.
Also, they use oil with amla, I think its a herb & it helps with hairgrowth.

Currently: Trying to stop straightening so much. Using Elucence conditioner and whatever works for me.
FYI- There's something in this- mineral oil if I'm not mistaken- that isn't CG friendly.

I think hair type could make a difference. The coarse, straight hair that a lot of East Asian people have is much stronger than curly hair.
