What should i do???

Hey ladies. I need your help. I'm 5 months/24 weeks post relaxer and i am transitioning to natural hair. I just took out a set of kinky twists and i have no clue what to do.

Should i shampoo, condition/detangle, then deep condition?

Or should i detangle, then shampoo, condition, then deep condition? I know i shouldn't detangle on dry hair so should i wet it and put a cheap conditioner on? And after that should i shampoo?

I'm really confused and haven't had success with building a regimen.

These are the products i have:
Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo
Aphogee 2 min reconstucter Conditoner
Lustrasilk Mango and Shea Butter
VO5 Strawberry and Milk Coditioner
Olive Oil
Cantu Shea Butter
Wild Growth Hair Oil

I would also like suggestions on some low manipulation styles i could do.

Can someone please help me.

P.S. Sorry for the long post...

You should look in the 4a section of this forum for the post "big sisters for big choppers". There are women in there that have posted up their hair thpes to give one on one attention to bug choppers n newly naturals!

    Hi JazzieFresh,

There is no certain mandate. It's all a matter of preference.

I've done either or, depending on the style I was wearing.

When wearing twists, I often find that a dry detangle works best for me.

I slather each twist in cheap conditioner working my hair into small sections and then shampoo, condition and style using those same sections. Some people use water during the dry detangle with conditioner but i prefer conditioner only.

When my hair is not in a style that causes a lot of tangles, I typically stick to more conditioner washing. I find that my hair retains more moisture the less I shampoo so I'll cowash a couple of times, then I slather my hair with whatever conditioner I plan to use for my deep treatment. I'll then detangle with it prior to getting under my heat cap.

My low manipulation style of choice for transitioning was two-strand twists and twist outs but there are many protective styles you can use including braids, buns, and updos depending on your length. Two-strand twists and twistouts work for any length soI recommend them for shorter hair.

PLEASE detangle your hair before wetting it. There will be lots of shed hair that has not had the opportunity to fall down. It can tangle on the way down and create some serious matting or tangling. detangle gently but try to be thorough.

When you said kinky twists you were talking about twist extentions right? If you've had them for three weeks or more, I'd highly recommend dry detangling. also check out growafrohairlong.com. There is a page for braids which includes a video on removing the debris that builds up with braids. This method helps me minimize hair loss after braids.

Make sure you're detangling with a wide tooth comb. I always do a baking soda rinse after I take down my weave installs. Following that I use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. If I'm not being too lazy I use Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Hair Smoothie for a DT and let that sit for 30+minutes. I rinse my hair with the coldest temp I can stand and follow with both my leave-in conditioner, Curls' Curl Souffle and shea butter.
