I can't believe the premiere was on and NO ONE is talking about it!!!

How awesome were all the flashbacks!! Real flashbacks, not just things we had seen before!!

Things that stood out for me:

Bailey - she made me cry a couple of times. When she told Denny she was sorry, then when she had Omar put his hands on hers. Heartwrenching.

Christina - actually showing she has a heart at the end when she told Burke never to die. Then of course his cute answer, "I'll do my best"

Callie - I adore her!! "I'm the girl in the back of the class that eats her hair" ... followed by "I'm going to leave the room for no apparent reason" I love her and I'm glad she's a regular now.

George - he's just George, I love him!! "soonish" cracked me up!! I loved him being all high strung while Derek was so calm.

Derek - He loves her. Period. Absolutely freakin' melted my heart!!!

Finn - I loved his line that if there was a race, a ring, his hat was in, but I don't like him so he can go away.

Meredith - she didn't do anything standoutish to me except her flashback seeing her mom fight with the doc.

Izzie - she looked so gorgeous even on the floor!!! And I lost it when she got up and said she was ready.

Well, you said it so well I have nothing...

Callie was a cohost on The View the other day. I love her! I can't believe she said she is a size 12. I think she's gorgeous.

    Yeah, the flashbacks were awesome.

    The scene w/ Bailey...wow...very deep...

Love Izzy! I was bummed they didn't show more of her...

    Great episode.

George/Callie: Callie is definitely growing on me. I could really get to like them together. But George really has no balls. That was annoying.

Cristina/Burke: I kind of love them. Don't tell anyone.

Bailey: Interesting route they're going with her. She really seems to feel responsible for what happened with Denny. Seeing Bailey look somewhat lost is a totally new dynamic, but I hope "The Nazi" doesn't go away entirely.

Alex: Loved him with the baby. I think we're going to see a lot of warm and fuzzy Alex scenes this season. His character is still in image rehab after last season.

Webber: Ouch. Wonder what'll happen with him. Maybe he'll have to move into the trailer with Derek  . Addison doesn't seem like she'll be there too much longer.

Addison: I see that the "you must be the woman who's been screwing my husband" **** is back. I kind of like it, but I hope they don't make her into a total villain. I've always liked Addison, I just don't like her with Derek.

Derek/Meredith: What can I say? Swoonworthy. His hair looked so good. He smiles so nicely. And I really can't believe he was so forthcoming and that he just told her immediately, straight out. I love it. I've died and gone to shipper heaven.

Finn: I can't believe he said "I'm a good thing." So cringeworthy. I hope he takes his hat and his plans and gets off my TV. I never ever bought that he was real competition for Derek, and I can't believe they're STILL trying to sell us that, even after Derek's speech last night.

Very excited for next week. They accidentally showed the second episode in Canada, so a little Googling will yield an in-depth description of next week. I have no self-control, so I read up on it. It's going to be beyond awesome.

I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but as you see, that does not stop me from reading about it. :D

I LOVE Cristina and I love Cristina and Burke. I always have.

I can't wait to see the episode!

    OK.

Here's what I've heard (not necessarily in the order the events happen):

-Meredith tells Derek and Finn that she chooses both of them, for now. She wants to date both of them for a little while before making her final choice. To this I say, WTF? But I hear Finn is gone in ep 3, so it must not last long. Meredith and Derek almost kiss (I think this is the scene from the video with The Fray).

-Derek tells Meredith that it is over with him and Addison, regardless of what Meredith decides. He says their marriage has really been "over" for a long time, even before he met Meredith.

-Addison found the panties in Derek's tux pocket. I for one sincerely hope that he put them there in a vain attempt to hide them, not because he wanted a memento of their illict sex.

-Addison comes to talk to the Chief. She tells him her whole sob story, then asks for the day off. She goes to Joe's to drink.

-Izzie is baking muffins and acting, well...like Izzie.

-Callie says the panties are hers to save Meredith's ass.

-At Joe's, Addison is getting really drunk (from the descriptions, it seems the scenes are played at least partly for laughs). She's asking Bailey and Joe if she's still attractive, and all that.

-Derek finds out from Webber that Addison found the panties. Derek says this wasn't how he wanted things to go down with Addison. He goes to find her and discovers her staying at a hotel. He gives her a speech about how the marriage is over, and it's his fault, and he's really sad about it, etc.

-All o' the sudden, the bathroom door opens and McSteamy comes out wrapped in just a towel. He says, "This is awkward." Derek says something about how he "feels better" now.

-Oh yeah. I almost forgot. The whole scene with Cristina and Burke and his parents walking in on them is in this ep too. Needless to say, Burke's mom is none too pleased. She apparently doesn't like Cristina too much.

I'm all excited just thinking about it. Also, how excited was I to hear Mat Kearney last night during the best scene evah. I really love him.

Grey's Anatomy makes me cry every single time I watch it. Argh.

Am I the only one that thinks McDreamy is bad news? And what the heck are they going to do with the show if Meredith and McDreamy actually get together?

I, too, love Cristina and Burke. Next week look hilarious.

Alex is totally going to be a peds surgeon, imo. God, he's so freakin' hot I can't stand it.

I love Callie. She's so sweet. Too bad George needs to grow a set.

I agree with this. Did you watch season 1? Because I started with season 2 and have only seen reruns of season 1 since, and I've never really liked them together. Everyone swears to me though, that if I watched season 1 I'd love them together.

I've started watching this show both shortly before the off-season and during. Here's what I've decided.

I cannot stand Meredith. She reminds me of every selfish, spoiled, screwed up woman who never takes responsibility for anything b/c well, she's (supposedly outrageously beautiful) and "poor thing", she's had a hard life.

McDreamy is a straight up jerk who is all about the chase or being chased, but will bail the moment he gets or is gotten and has to cowboy it the f-up in the relationship. He's also more than willing to cheat on his wife and not tell the person he's sleeping with that he's married. Remember when he apologized to Addison for being absent in their marriage? Hmmmm. What's that tell you? I also find him somewhat smarmy and as deep as a kiddie pool.

Of course, he's going to choose Meredith. She looks upon his as this strong, mature man who also happens to be an accomplished, established surgeon. Addison doesn't view him with the same amount of swooniness b/c she's a mature woman, established in her own right and who knows all of his warts.

Callie kicks all kinds of ass. She also strikes me as the sort of female friend everywoman should have. She'll call you out if you need it and she'll always have your back. Plus, she likes herself.

George does have a pair. He also has an incredibly good heart. He's just not a swaggering, self-satisfied 'stud.' The fact he won't tell Callie he loves her just b/c she said it to him speaks volumes about how well he knows himself and how much he thinks about what he does to others. Plus, saying your in love with someone is a lot easier than actually doing what it takes to really show it. Plus, Burke likes him and Burke's good people.

    Burke -- He's a man -- a quiet, confident, loving man.

Christina -- Well, she's Sandra Oh. Nuff said. She's also probably the one of them, other than Alex, who seems to be evolving the most personally. Plus, am I the only one who didn't know she's Jewish? I loved her explaining shiva and the "low stool."

Alex -- He is a flaming ass on purpose and I love him b/when he lets his guard down, he lets it down big-time. I almost started crying last night when he and Addison were with the baby and he said that thing about plenty of people have a really hard childhood but that all you had to do was survive (and you'd be okay). We must know more. I'm thinking his growing up sucked.

Bailey -- Splendid person. Izzy put her in a crappy position. I think it shook Bailey to the core in terms of her skills along with having had a baby and maybe being "mommy-tracked." She's probably like Christina -- never experienced doubt about herself as a doctor or person before.

Izzy -- Big, hearted, actually tough as nails Izzy. She did more laying on that floor last night than the rest of them did together with all their overwrought emotion. SHE made me cry when she said she didn't know what to do. I remember thinking -- that show should be enough to earn her an Emmy.

For the record, I don't much like Meredith either, and I agree that McDreamy is bad news. I call him McSmarmy. Definitely not a 'shipper.

But I love the rest of the characters enough that I can ignore those too. I have a huge girl crush on Sandra Oh. She's awesome.

    Derek = bad news.
    Meredeith = bad news.

Get those 2 selfish so & suchs together and they can ignore each other and ignore their relationship and be high strung and high maintenance and whatever.

Callie and the vet would be interesting together. I don't see it happening much longer with George.

I think they set up the flashbacks and all so that it's clear that Alex is considering working with kids & deliveries.

Bailey's character is really developing and flushing out, it's great.

Discgirl - I agree with your assessments of Meredith and McDreamy. Maybe it's because we both didn't watch from the beginning? Anyway, I love the other characters enough that I'm in love with the show. I love love LOVE Izzie.

I've caught enough of the earlier episodes to know I just don't like those two.

My new favorite phrase: Feeling McGuilty.

It was funny when they were telling Meredith she should talk to Izzie b/c Meredith is all dark and twisty inside: the tequila thing, the innapropriate me, the mother with Alzheimer's she was hiding. Friends who know you better than yourself are a good thing. I like the fact they all profess to hate Alex, but always seem to bring him around anyway or rely on him when they have to rally the troops. I think Izzie is probably that "shiny girl" Alex always wanted growing up, but didn't get to have for whatever reason. Does he know she grew up in a trailer park and gave a baby away when she was young?

On the Grey's blog, Shonda Rhimes said that the flashbacks were for the hardcore fans that had been there from the beginning...things that we knew happened, but hadn't actually seen. I liked that.

For a very long time, I hated Meredith. I hated Addison too. So I can see where those of you who dislike one or both of them are coming from.

But in the end, Meredith grew on me. So did Addison. I relate to Meredith. Even though I don't get drunk and sleep with inappropriate men (tm Alex), the sorts of mistakes Meredith makes are mistakes I've made a hundred times. Also, I think the writers deliberately don't fall all over themselves to write any of the characters sympathetically. There's certainly enough ammo there for them to do so, but they don't. I respect that, even if it sometimes leads to me rolling my eyes at the characters.

I don't feel sorry for any of the members of the triangle. They all were wronged at one time or another, but they all did wrong too. The only thing that ever moved the needle on my pitymeter was Derek not telling Meredith about Addison sooner. But even then, Meredith could have walked away and she didn't. So the pitymeter barely registered on that. But when it comes down to it, I like Meredith and Derek together. They have better chemistry. They make me care about what happens to them. I buy into it. I like Addison, but they never sold her and Derek to me. The McMarriage is a McPlotDevice. Addison's arc was supposed to be five episodes, and it shows. Their relationship feels tacked on.

The show thus far has been a cautionary tale about: (1) trying to do the *right* thing when your heart isn't in it, and (2) you don't know what you got 'til it's gone (Addison doesn't come after Derek until she learns about Meredith; Derek comes after Meredith once she's with Finn). I hope the cautionary tale is over and the show will now feature all three characters taking responsibility, getting their balls back, and acting on things instead of just reacting to what the other two are doing.

But in the end, I'm a diehard shipper and I make no apologies for that fact.

Absolutely LOVED the show - especially the flash backs!!!! The hour went so fast - I just wanted to watch more!!!

I also cry with almost every episode.

Loved Baily in this one - she made me cry, too.

The actor that played Omar - who is he? I KNOW I have seen him before & can't think of his name, for the life of me & can't find it online.....He was great!

I think there was an episode where a mother wanted a kid to donate something of his (a kidney?) to his father and the kid didn't want to do it because he abused the mother and maybe him.

Alex really related to him, and even talked about how to get over the anger towards his father.

I definitely hope they explore this more because despite his being a jerk, you do get the sense that there's tender heart there somewhere.

So, I just started watching this show this summer now that I have a DVR, I was able to catch up very quickly -

Am I the only one who didn't love last night's episode? I think so! I did love the last 2 minutes, other than that it seemed over dramatic and kind of lame. I liked the flashbacks, but that was about it. But then again, I HATE Meredith, seriously to the point where I considered not watching the show (considered, but then, I LOVE Miranda so much, I would watch anything she is on).

I think the reason I hate the Meredith character so much is because the actress that plays her is not a very good actress, IMHO. She overacts. Because to me, her lines always seems so cheesy and contrived, whereas the other lines don't seem like that to me (although last night a lot of the lines DID seems cheesy and contrived, not just Merediths), so it can't be that they just write bad lines for her, it has to be the delivery.

I'm not a hater, actually, even with my hate for Meredith, I still really like this show - it has some great characters (Burke, Christina, Miranda) but honestly I thought the show last night could have been written a lot better.

My sister in law got me hooked on this show (damn her! She also hooked my on "24") and now I am like a junkie!

I LOVED this episode. LOVED. IT.

Everyone said all that I was thinking in the posts above (but I love all the cast members) but I agree Finn needs to go and George needs to takes his balls out of his purse and slam 'em on the table - Callie is a great catch and she is good for him, she makes him seem more manly or something. Love her.

I have to agree, my favorite line of the night goes to Cristina "Feeling McGuilty?"
HG: Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee (always and forever)
Cantu Naturals s & c (shampoo 1x a week), use conditioner as a co-wash every day and LI under my gel.

Air dry then diffuse canapy layers only for volume
Coconut oil before/after coloring grays and on ends.

2b/c mix waves/curls - coarse, frizz prone, med. thick, porous, at-home color, protein sensitive but I still need it sometimes, glycerin-sensitive (I think) in high humidity. After 16 years on NC.com I FINALLY figured it out..

There's lots of kinds of "chemistry" -- slambam in your face physical chemistry wiht nothing substantive that will sustain it over time, adult mature chemistry that is both physical, emotional and intellectual. You can have complete physical chemistry with someone and be in something that's the roadmap of dysfunction. (M & D). It's going to be interesting to see how much chemistry they have when their relationship is no longer a secret from the others or forbidden b/c one of them is with someone else. Do they ever even have real conversations beyond "What does this mean?"

I think he does have chemistry with Addison. It's the second kind I wrote about. They have an ease with each other even when things are not good with them. They laugh together and they're also friends. It's just nicer and healthier IMO.

Meredith doesn't like the vet IMO b/c well, he's normal. Of course, how normal is it to wait around for someone to choose between you and a married man? He barely even knows this woman and he's willing to put life on hold for her. The thing I don't get about her character is that she's never seemed to display any stand-out attribute like the others -- Izzie's big heart, Christina's big brain and (general strength), George's compassion & loyalty and Alex's brutal, but usual spot on franknes with people. Meredith just seems to walk around being self-tortured and looking for pity. Look at how she treated George after their "incident." It was all about her wanting him to talk to her and wanting to explain, not about her acknowledging how horribly hurt and emasculated George probably felt.

I LOVE this show. My mom and I watch together (over the phone) every week. The only part I don't like is Meredith. She whines so much and she doesn't seem to learn or grow. She is the same now as she was when the series started. The whole thing about her being "dark and twisty?" I don't think being self-destructive is dark and twisty.
What Alex said about having a bad childhood and surviving it could easily apply to her. Yes her childhood sucked and her parents should have done more for her, but what are you doing about it now.
As for McDreamy... I love Patrick Dempsey. I think he plays the hell out this role, but Derrick seems like a man who could grow a pair to me. He courts Meredith but won't tell his wife that it's over. He had the divorce papers in his hand and didn't sign them. I don't think Finn is a good match for her (much too goody-goody), but Derrick is the kind of guy I would steer clear of until the judge had signed the divorce papers and his wife wasn't living in his trailer.
Christina and Burke make always make me cry.
George and Callie seem normal and seem to bring something to one another.
Even Izzy and Alex make sense to me.

I read somewhere that episode 2 was originally supposed to be episode 1. But then test audiences thought that they needed some more info about what happened right after last season ended, so the shot another episode that wasn't originally planned. That probably had something to do with the Canadian snafu.

Sort of. It was actually a rewrite, not the insertion of a whole new episode.

They rewrote the first episode, so I'm sure events did get shifted around some (i.e., I'm betting the panties originally weren't waiting until ep 2 to make their public debut). And the second ep was filmed before the first (while they waited for rewrites).

But how hard is it? You put in the tape that says #1, not the tape that says #2. Someone was asleep at the switch on this one.

ETA to answer the question that was asked earlier, a "shipper" is someone in support of a relationship. It's short for relationshipper. It can also be a verb as in "to ship."
