Hi Beautiful Curlies,

I have problem, My hair is 3c/4a (that's not the problem) and Curl Stimulators like Miss Jessies ([buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Pudding-p-578.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-pudding]curly pudding[/buylink] and curly meriange [sp]) and Kinky Curly all give me a jeri curl. I've tried twisting it and doing other things and I still come out with a jeri curl. Any help?

Happy Holidays!!

    Hi Browncrayola:

I'm a 3c/4a I do use [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] on occassion but these days my wash n gos don't need any 'curl creams/stimulators' - i just moisturize and seal, but even when I do use [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink], etc I don't get jheri curl results. How are you actually applying the products? How much water are you leaving in your hair? Or are you applying dry? Do you diffuse after and scrunch out when dry? Are you looking for more of an elongated curl after you're done styling? Maybe it's the technique but it would be hard to say without knowing more info.

    Hey LaFemmeBoucles,

I apply in the shower so my hair is completely wet and when I hop out sometimes I diffuse other times I let air dry. I don't really need to scrunch my hair as it's already plenty curly enough. I am just looking to have a more elongated curl and less frizz. My curls are great naturally sans stimulators but I just wanted a different look.

Hope you had a fantastic holiday!

Hi- I have the same issue Kink Curly gives me that jeri curl look I dont like, I have no issue with curl definition, those curly cremes just make my hair shrink up. I found a few things that worked for me.

Karens body beatiful, the hair Milk & Hair cream, the butter is too heavy for me. They smell GREAT!!
the Milk is a good leave-in & the Cream helps seal and hold. Add FOTE aloe vera gel for extra hold

Homemade Whipped Shea butter, with coconut oil, and aloe vera gel ( cheapier then KBB)

Afroveda, the cocolatte is great for moisture, I top it wit the Pur whipped gelly or aloe vera gel for a touchable light hold. they smell very good to the chocolate&vanilla.

    Hi browncrayola,

    I don't think I am a 3c, but I can commiserate on the
    jherri curl look thing.

I am finding there are many products that can result in that for me.

I can't comment on the elongation issue, but as far as frizz goes have you figured out whether your hair likes/dislikes protein or is porous?

    Happy New Year everyone!!!!

pardon the late reply - the holiday season kept me close to family and friends and away from the net.

Browncrayola - why don't you try using less products and blow drying with a diffuser? I blow dry if I'm doing a wash n go (in the winter) and to get a 'longer' looking curl I gently hold the ends so the curls dry longer. Since I've used [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] I see what you mean with the jheri curl look so I used a verrryyy small amount of it . I have a curly friend that would put duckbills at the ends of her hair so the curl would dry longer - ummmm that didn't work for me lol.

I've also read that come curlies get elongation with Henna. I use Cassia and it does elongate my curls but not for that long (as soon as I'm out the shower for a few minutes - snap! shrinkage!). I've found that with Cassia, the health, porosity and strength of my hair has improved so much that when I do wash n go's, I moisturize and seal and go - no need for stylers anymore - my [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]kccc[/buylink] is just sitting there, waiting to be used.

I definitely think porosity may be something to consider as it can effect whether or not a product is just 'sitting' there on your hair and creating that jheri curl look you don't want. Henna and Cassia will definitely help with porosity. In the short time (2mos) I've been using Cassia, I need much less conditioner and stylers to achieve the look I want - or maybe it's just that I have a new found confidence in my hair and I accept it - frizzies and all. idk, but in the past, my hair would NEED (seriously) stylers to look good, and now: eh! not so much at all.

How often to you clarify/poo to get rid of any build-up? How often are you doing wash n gos?

Sounds like you have strong natural definition, so why use a strong styler? Stick with a conditioner leave in or creamy/lotioning butter product (Afroveda, Donna Marie are good brands)

What she said! Your hair sounds very similar to mine and I find using lighter products is better. I have a fine texture and AV made my hair hard. But a lighter gel I can recommend is Donna Marie Miracurls as well as Hairveda's gelly.

yes, I just posted something similar in the 4b thread, but you just might not need a styler if you already have defined curls. find out what works for you! personally, I went natural to create less work - not more - for myself, so if a leave - in, moisturizer, and oil works for you, then by all means ROCK IT!!! :)

looked @ your Fokti ( i think we have similar coils!) and am wondering exactly what you mean by "smoothing vs. shingling"?

    Hey Cass!!

Shingling is when you part hair into sections, apply the products and run a comb through it...you can use a fine tooth comb or finger comb....

    Heres a video example:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g02R7n77kHQ

When I smooth I apply the product and glide down the sections with the pads of my fingers....

    Hi Nike---

Ah got it. I gave up that shingling business, it takes forever on my hair and I dont care for the results. I DID try your braid style overnight (with the bobby pins on the end) and now have super fluffy and hydrated curls! lovin i!
