Friiiizzzz!!!

OMG, it's a shame what a hot mess my hair turned out to be today! I actually had it looking so cute this morning that I went out w/out a headband. WHAT A BIG MISTAKE. I was not expecting the humidity. By lunchtime, my head was so shrunken and frizzy and dry that my bangs were sticking straight out from my forehead. And not a brush, comb, or clip in sight (I'm really going to have to start carrying those things around). The first thing I did when I got home was to saturate my whole head in olive oil. I'm going to sleep with a shower cap on tonight to see if that helps things, since it seems like it's going to be just as damp and humid tomorrow. Any other tips??

What styling product(s) do you use?

Let's see, this morning I co-washed with Nature's Gate Rainwater Tea Tree, then (and this is where I think things went wrong) I mixed some of that conditioner with my regular Vo5 and honey. I usually mix a little Vo5 with whatever conditioner I'm using. This was the first time I tried it w/ NG rainwater - not bad, just not as moisturized as I would have liked. After rinsing all the conditioner out, I applied my smooth 'n shine curl activator, which I'm beginning to think doesn't hold up to humidity very well. I'm inclined to think that my hair started out dry and just got worse from there. Is there anything else I can try to help with frizzing issues, though?

Today was much better hair- (and weather-)wise. The overnight olive oil treatment worked well. My hair was much softer and more moisturized. I washed that out this morning, then used another conditioner (Garnier) with my Vo5 and honey. I also used more smooth 'n shine than usual. In all, I'm very proud of the results; so much so that I took [url=http://www.angelfire.com/planet/lcmarie/my_hair/pictures. Cute, huh?

Question: has anyone test-driven Motions conditioners? The one for fine hair is cone-free.

Too much conditioner can do that. Sometimes if I use a certain condish it will negate the effect of the styler I'm using and frizz me up. Where I can use VO5 and Suave as co-washes, they are totally inadequate as conditionsers. I use [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Elucence-Moisture-Balancing-Conditioner-p-39.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=elucence-elucence-moisture-balancing-conditioner]Elucence MBC[/buylink] or Jessicurl TooShea for the rinse-out conditioner, both very moisturizing.

As a leave in beneath my styler, I'm absolutely loving Curl Junkie Hibisicus & Banana leave-in (fine), even though it tends to fade my color. I don't care :D I'll just color more often.

Stylers/combos that work for frizz control (at least for me)

[buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/CURLS-Curls-Milkshake-p-884.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=Curls-Curls-Milkshake]Curls Milkshake[/buylink] - I use on second day hair and it kills that frizz on my hairline; not a lot of hold, but does a great smoothing job.
Clairol Herbal Essences humidity defying gel - I spot apply this to those resistant parts that just want to be poofy. It's discontinued, but Set Me Up is supposed to be as good (haven't tried) - good and cheap
    CurlKeeper
[buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Blended-Beauty-Styling-Butter-Cream-p-529.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=blended-beauty-styling-butter-cream]Blended Beauty Styling butter cream[/buylink], when applied to wet hair and/or combined with the CHE HDG or CurlKeeper is a great combo
    Curl Junk guava cream

For Frizz control and volume control/reduction:

    Kinky Curling curling custard
Tigi Control Freak Serum (cheaper than [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink])
    Curlisto Control II
And other 4a curlies swear by IC Fantasia gel with sparkalites (lots of threads) but it doesn't work for me.

    Karenmc3,

Thanks for all the tips. I usually mix some V05 with my regular conditioner b/c I haven't found anything that's quite up to snuff yet. Also, I loathe experimenting with products. Why can't we all just find something that works and get it over with? lol. Consequently, I usually just play around with whatever I have lying around. Rather than going out and buying new products, I determined to make the old stuff work. Maybe that's not the best strategy...

Thanks for the product reviews. I'm inclined to think that my hair was a little under-moisturized that day (anyone have any tips for moisture retention?) It even dried quicker than usual :? Don't ask me why. Anyway, as I said, the olive oil treatment was a smart move on my part - I really think it helped. I would love to try some curl junkie/jessicurl products, but two things are standing in my way: impatience and price. Plus, I find that my hair responds better to gels than creams and lotions (maybe I'll try that set me up after all), and my usual smooth 'n shine is a staple. It just wasn't helping me that day

Anywayz, thanks again for taking the time to respond to my question!
