Idolizing someone else's hair

gekko422gekko422 Registered Users Posts: 4,869 Curl Connoisseur
I have been drooling over goobernut's hair since I wandered over to the 2 board. SO cute. However, I know that her hair is not my hair and the odds of my hair ever looking like hers is nil.

Nonetheless. Covet. Total covet.

So, now I am thinking of getting my hair cut. I feel like the last cuts have set me up for straggly ends, but I have no idea where to go or if I should just get a trim, blah blah.

How do you decide how/when/etc to get a haircut. And where the hell am I supposed to go to get my haircut!!!

Take Goober's picture with you when you go, so you can discuss with your stylist!

Have you looked in the stylist section for recommendations in your area? Where are you? Maybe we can help.

You could always go for a consult before you make an appointment. This way, you could ask all the questions you need to make sure the stylist will do your hair the way you want (wet cut, dry cut, curly cut, whatever!) and agree upon a color/style and then set an appointment. There are a couple of threads going about what to ask a new stylist... let me see if I can find them...

Look for the link within that thread to the thread by Struttswife. Good info!

Yes, I took those questions to my current (soon to be ex) stylist and she still gave me a crap cut. Then, when Tiffany was here and we were all at Curlilock's house talking about stylists, we all complained about the same stylist effing up our hair. So apparently we all need to find a new stylist!!

I am in San Jose, CA.

ETA: The first time she cut my hair, she did a dry cut, took her time, and all that good stuff. This last time, it was like wham bam thank you ma'am, you're done. And my hair is just straggly now.

Ahh. For some reason I thought you might be closer to me (Detroit!) and I could make a recommendation. Have you tried Yelp? I found some good services that way.

Hey Gek I know Jillipo has one that she likes..maybe you could get the name and studio or whatever they call it from her? I remember reading on her blog she was very happy with the person she normally sees (not a Deva stylist I don't think).

I think as long as you are happy it doesn't matter if it's a Deva trained or not since the Deva training is now 1 or 2 days and much of it, from what I hear, is really more about the product pushing and less about the training.

I love Goob's hair as well..the recent cut making the curls just pop right out of her head..I wish my hair would lay well like that and look that good..it's a very glamorous but comfortable looking style..hard to pull off for many of us (especially me with the psycho hair!)..I actually think your hair does look a little like that--at least in the pictures I've seen.

I have always coveted Operacurls, Empressri, Helloitsio and Del and Jess's, and CoilsKinksCurls, Kitathena, and Drawmuhfree. Even though my hair doesn't look like any of theirs!!!

And of course everytime there is a hair porn posting I freakin want all of y'all's hair too!

The place Jillipoo goes to is Sassy's in SF. It's a bit of a haul, but it seems like that might be my best option. There is one salon in SJ listed, but the reviews elsewhere aren't all that great.

Curlilocks reviewed a woman in Fremont, but I think she told me she was thinking about going to her sister's stylist.

It's hard to make these decisions, maybe I will just suck it up and go to SF.

My first gut response to Gekko's post was:

"Put the crack pipe down! we can get you some help!!!"

But honestly, don't have hair envy. My hair looks like my pics one day a month! Of course I only post good pics! My hair is a hot mess most of the time. It would be like worshiping a false idol. An Olympic athlete that takes steroids -- its just so wrong lol.

I really have only been okay with my hair since the cut. I have HATED it for the entire time since I've been CG. Well except for the few weeks that I was getting DoC to work for me (my avatar pic). Then the weather changed. I have been trying to like it, because its what I have. I've been trying to find a style that fits my hair texture and its behavior. And really, its not curls vs waves that I want, I don't care if its "curlier" I want it more volumnious! And is it really so much to ask for it to stay? I don't like hair that sticks flat to my head.

Seriously Gekko, and I'm not saying this now because I feel like I have to, I've often wished I could get the waves that you do. And you mentioned that you have conditioner styled before? Bwah! I could never do that. To me, it seems like you have low-maintenance hair. I have high-maintenance hair. I want low-maintenance hair and it look good.

My hair envy? Helloitsio and Del -- and of course, I will never have that hair, because I have about 1/4 the hair they do. And that's just confining it to wavies. If I went full on discussing all hair types, I'd have to say operacurls, bekkapoo, and MJlove fill me with the green monster. However, since about 2 months into this journey I realized I'll never have hair like anyone elses on this board. My hair is uniquely mine -- hot mess that it is.

Seems like everyone always wants someone else's hair, doesn't it? Maybe that's just because we get tired of dealing with our own hair over and over and over again??

Gekko, I made an appointment for my sister Janette (who is visiting for the Christmas holidays from Sweden) with Jillipoo's stylist, BeBe at Sassy Salon. Janette's a wavy, too, so I can give you report after her appointment if you'd like.

Tiffany said that Jillipoo had a very good cut so she sounds promising to me. The salon is right near the BART station, too, so you could just drive part of the way and take BART the rest of the way if that makes the trip any easier on you.
