question about water and products

wavy wonderwavy wonder Registered Users Posts: 3,061 Curl Neophyte
So, when I was living in the city we had hard water ( i think, it certainly came out hard;) anyways, we moved about a month and half ago and we now have soft water. Before we moved i was having success with soap bars. They were HG material. Ever since we moved the soap bars have been a complete and utter disaster for me. Do you think the water is what has changed that i can't use them anymore? or is it the weather? would weather impact how the soap bar works??

I'm not sure about the weather, but definitely the water affects your hair. We have very hard water (well water), and whenever we go on vacation, my hair looks totally different from when I am home. My daughter just started college in September - the school has soft water - and her hair is so different with that water. It's a real pain.

anniemae - I hear ya! My youngest is a senior in high school and the thought of being an empty nester is so sad.:sad11:

Wavy, I definitely think it's the water. Soft water probably makes the soap bars lather really well and feel good, but it would also make it hard to rinse the film out of your hair. Soap leaves a film. On everything! Also, since you don't have to deal with hard water and the build-up that it can cause, the soap bars are probably just too harsh now.

I think this is right. We have what I think is "hard" water...but when I went to Newport Beach it was amazing..amazing..my hair looked so good there at the Marriot--it was perfect curly wavy...even my office mate commented on it!

So I think the water makes the biggest difference..maybe more than weather IMHO

And I agree Anniemae--both you and Runnerchicki shocked me! I thought you were both in your 20's at best!

    Alexjoujou,

You are too kind. :) Wow - I wish I was in my 20s. Does it count if you still feel like you're in your 20s??!! Waaaaaaaaaa....

    Runnerchicki,

I know how you feel - I was so sad all this past summer. She's my only one, so I cried the first couple of weeks in Sept when she first went to school. But, she comes home on weekends and isn't too far, so I am used to it now. Take it one day at a time....

    Wavy,

I remember when my daughter was 3. That was a wonderful age!! So exciting - still babyish and innocent yet growing more independent. Just enjoy every minute/every age because it goes way too fast. :-( Now, I like that my daughter is older and we're best friends, but how I miss those baby times. :bunny: (Plus, I hate getting older - ugh).

I may feel differently when my son is 3, but right now he is 15 months (on Wednesday) and he is exhausting :blob7: - deep down I know I love every minute of it...but I do await the days he is older and can TELL me what he wants.

Oh I still get nervous ticks when I think of the baby age. I'm sooOOoOOOooooOOOOooOOOOOOOOOOO glad we're past that. Every day that he's older I say a small little happy prayer.

With that said, I know to enjoy every day I have. Even though he's not a trustable source, I soak it up when he pats my cheek and tells me I'm beautiful. Even though I know he doesn't know beautiful from the side of the barn it makes me feel beautiful and I'll take it! heh. And I still snuggle and steal kisses. One day he won't wanna do all that, so I'll just take it when I can.

He can be so sweet and then such a BRAT. He had school today from 9:30a-1:30p. By the time 1:30pm rolls around he is just so tired and a maniac. I picked him up from school and he is always the only child that wont just come with me. I have to chase him etc. Finally i get him, we walk outside and he takes off. I get him , we get into the car and let him calm down. I ask him what he did at school today and he says "NO, don't talk to me". WHAAAAAAAT. Are you kidding. So i ask again and the little ship says it again. So we continue home. He asks me a question when we pull in the drive way and i say ,"No, don't talk to me". LOL. BRAT! i love him to death but man-oh-man it is tough.

Let's get you ladies back on topic! No kids for me.

I definitely notice when I go somewhere with soft water, my hair feels way softer.

I read somewhere that with soft water you need to use much less soap (even laundry soap ect.) so maybe if you used less, or even tried to go without for a while you might get better results.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I have an almost 4 year old a two and a half year old and my baby will be 1 on Saturday. Do the math, thats three under three years of age. It is a whining, crying fest at my house all the time. I am so tired of it! Everyone tells me not to wish for them to grow up and enjoy them while little cause the problems only change, but I have to say, I am ready for the next set of problems...
