Too much clumping?

When I first went CG and started wearing my hair wavy, I had issues with "stringlets." This prompted a concerted effort to improve clumping. I discovered the Icequeen method and my clumps improved greatly.

But lately, I've noticed a strange phenomenon. My first day hair has normal sized clumps, but then each day they seems to join into bigger clumps. By day 3 they have merged into 5 or so mega-spirals, which I just think looks really strange. I've taken to wetting my hair and re-scrunching to break them up a bit, because they just look...odd, like I had taken a large-barrel curling iron and given myself a few giant ringlets.

It just seems weird, since historically I've had more issues with stringlets. Anyone else prone to excessive clumps?

I don't get huge clumps like you, but my hair does the same thing. I don't get too mad anymore if I end up with stringlets, because by the next day they are nice sized clumps. Third day my hair is still sorta wearable, if my underlayer didn't look look so greasy, I'd prolly wear 3rd day hair. So I haven't really let my hair get beyond 3rd day to notice the size of the clumps. I'm usually the exxon valdez by then.

Whenever I take out my scrunchies that I've been sleeping on overnight, I tend to get those big clumps, too. I just spray on some spray gel and finger comb it to reduce the clumping.

My right side does that, even 1st day. I just lightly pull them apart into smaller clumps.

My curls are strange too! My waves are more curlier on the left side than they are on the right side, it's just strange.

Hmm, I wish I had too much clumping. I get stringier and stringier as time goes on, except under my ears--those parts get nice and clumpy. If anyone knows how to get 2nd or 3rd day clumps on day 1, I want to know how you do it!

Oh yeah can I relate. This is what [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink] does for me. Like 8 big FAT sausage (Polish Kielbasa!) rolls...ugh! It may sound all cute (or appetizing depending on which way you look at it I guess) but if it's not on my plate I don't want it!

I have to break up ringlet's all the time on my underlayer and I just use an old pic I bought in the 80's (I'll probably gift this as an heirloom to my grankids as it'll still be in like new condition then..gotta love technology!)..I just gently put it under my curls up to my scalp and pull out just every so slightly. Not too much. Not to comb it..just usually separates them and then if I scrunch a bit they come out more...I always have to pull out the ones underneath in back of my hair looks wacked like that..like I curling iron'd half of it or got a bad home perm or something!

Lately, yes! I've been having great wave in the front *knock on wood*, the middle has been one massive clump, & the back is flat as hell. Luckily when I look in the mirror most of what I see is the pretty front, so I just try to pretend the rest of my head isn't there =P

I have the same 80's pick! Mine is a light, turquoise-y blue. I've had it since high school - I guess that ages me (I graduated in '86).

I get great big clumpy, sausage curls underneath, all around my neck and onto my shoulders. I always wondered if it was from moving my head around (like turning side to side) that my hair rubbed against my shoulders and the constant movement made it into big sausage curls. But it only happens around day 2 or 3, never on "fresh" hair. I either gently pick them apart or separate them with my fingers. They tangle easily on the ends.

You would think that big fat sausage curls would be a good thing but my hair is thin and when it gets all together in these big clumpy rolls, it looks like (to me anyway) that I don't have that much hair!
