I went to the benefit beauty bar and had my eyebrows waxed for the first time. I'm a plucker, but I happened to be there when they were waxing someone else and the girl who was doing the waxing actually seemed to know what she was doing, soooOOoooooo I did it!

I'm glad I got it done there -- at my spa they charge 3x that amt. I was really needing them re-shaped. I didn't want them too thin and I have trust issues, but it all worked out. I have glamorous eyebrows now!

I've been getting my eyebrows (and some other places) waxed for years and I can't imagine ever plucking again. The amount my stray hairs have thinned out and the slower rate at which they grow in now is amazing. I only need to go every 6 weeks now where as I was plucking on a weekly basis.

Go Goober!!! Glad you have pretty brows :love10:

I get my eyebrows waxed at (gasp!) walmart. The girl there actually does know what she's doing, and I can't pluck. It makes me sneeze and hurts too much!

I've been plucking since 12. When my mom showed me how to do it. I do a decent job, I even have people ask me where I got mine waxed, and I had to explain that I didn't wax them, I plucked.

Oh peyroux, I believe you can get good services anywhere -- you just gotta find the right person. I used to get my hair cut at the mall cause the girl in there was freaking awesome. She did the best cuts. Oooh nails and manicures are like that too.

I've always wanted to go there. They've just open one at the shopping centre near my uni house. I usually get them done every few months and look after them in between, once I get lazy again and let them grow i go back and get them reshaped!
However I'm visiting my parents and really needed to get them done.. I hadn't notice due to a hectic exam and placement period they'd grow all over the place (lol) so i booked into a reputable salon only to have them destroyed! :( so sad. Should've done them myself!

The are super skinny (which i hate!) and get this... uneven!! The silly lady even had the nerve to tell me half way that i had more hair on one eye brow then the other (ok yes technically anatomically it's true for everything on each side of our body but it's miniscule!)- as if to blame me for her making them so uneven!! I have one that's almost a flat line and the other has somewhat of a shape. My brows aren't usually overly manicured ( no high arch or anything) more naturally shaped.

Not only this but whatever wax she used or her technique or even the concealer she insisted putting on me afterwards left me very sensitive, no aloe or anything. By the evening I had those stupid little tiny pimples scattered where she'd waxed me. I do realize I have sensitive skin by nature and tend to go super red, but I have never ever got these pimply things from an eyebrow wax!! (I got them on my first bikini wax - the hair follicle freaks out or something and get bacteria in it??)

So sad because I've always found eye brow waxing the most convenient way to keep them in shape, now I'm scared!

anniemae: as for pain... I've never found it painful (the one above wasn't comfortable) but my eyes always water, must be some sort of protective function for when something is to close to my eye??

I don't find it painful... it stings, but it is over so fast I don't really notice it!

Thanks guys -- like jess I think its great to have a community of girls who care about my hair/eyebrows! ha, cause I know my husband doesn't. I can see his eyes roll back in his head when I even mention the word hair. Or I can't even get the beginning of the word hai.... out before I see him check out!

Anyway Curlywurly -- my eyebrows are like that too. One is just a tad higher than the other -- and its definitely not my doing. they grow like that. One is a little thicker than the other too. Thankfully, its the thicker one that is a little lower, so I'll brush the brow up a little to make it look like its the same height as the other.

What/where is the Benefit Beauty Bar?

The best eyebrow waxing I ever got --- no bumps, or pain ---- was by a guy.

I'm too chicken to wax anywhere else.

Benefit Brow bars are in department stores. I just walked in to my Macys and saw it. I think though, that you can find them on the Benefit website.

The one I went to was in Ulta.

Dude, I waxed once on my legs to try it out. Thought I had found the new miracle way to remove hair. Didn't hurt, it was awesome! I went crazy. Emboldened by my lack of pain, I proceeded to wax every single bit of unwanted hair on my entire body. My bikini line, my ARMPITS, it was all game.

I was in bliss for about 4 days, and then the hair started to grow back. It was like someone was stabbing me with pins and needles for WEEKS. Everytime I got the goosebumps I'd be in pain. That whole "growing hair back in" phase lasted for 2-3 weeks and it was awful. Just painful. Every time I got the chills, tears would come to my eyes.

I have never waxed my legs again. Oooh and the horrible infected hair follicles. LOL YUK!

    *cringe* Plucking sounds painful...
Whatever you do, don't do threading; that hurts like crap especially the first time; I felt as if she was trying to go inside my skin! :\
I like waxing better than anything, because it hurts a little bit (especially the first time or if you have a lot of hairs), but it's only for a second; it's like ripping off a bandaid, unlike threading...

I was but got over it. I couldn't handle the razor burn and ingrowns anymore. Now my hair is considerably finer and grows in much slower. I never get ingrowns anymore and I can easily go 6 to 8 weeks without a wax. I have to say that I still shave my legs and under arms. It'd just be a PITA to do my legs I think. I want to do my under arms but the growing out stage would be too much for me.

Strangely, my underarm hair (of which I never that much) is almost gone now, for some reason (age?). So why doesn't my leg hair start thinning out, too?

Nora, I had no idea threading hurt so much. I've been wanting to try it, but I think I'm too much of a baby to get through it.
  • curlywurlygurlycurlywurlygurly Registered Users Posts: 1,180
I think underarm waxing is the most painful off all!! I'm blessed to have rather light and fine hair that takes a while to grow back. So I love waxing, just find time to make appointments always annoys me! I usually shave through winter if i can be bothered and wax through summer.. I kind of wish I could get laser (but I'm a little scared of that too!!)

goobernut - you poor thing!!! did you exfoliate??? Due to my lovely sensitive skin I stay red from leg waxing at least 24hrs... oh the joys!
Now I'm just waiting for my brows to grow some more so I can try to even them out again :( Luckily they're not terrible- granted they are still neat and I do still have eyebrows. And they call themselves professionals! *shakes head* haha

The absolute WORST is lip waxing . . . I have to do my own at home every couple of weeks or I get some very unattractive growth (I get this from my mom--thanks Mom!). I can handle plucking/waxing/whatever on my eyebrows, but the lip is just awful every time.
