Holding Wave?

krm0789krm0789 Registered Users Posts: 34
After I dry it with a diffuser & scrunch out the little crunch I have, my hair is super wavy... but within a few minutes it falls. It's still wavy, but the looser type that prompts comments from people like "don't you own a hair brush?!"

Does anyone have any recommendations for products to hold the wave in? I really like the HETT mousse & gel that I'm using, so I'm really looking for an after all is said & done kind of product. In my pre-cg days I loved Aussie's Sprunch Spray, but it has dimethicone in it, which seems to weigh my hair down.

Ahhh how I miss the smell of Sprunch Spray...

When my hair starts to get droopy I assess what it may need. An ACV rinse usually perks it up and a protein treatment does too (if protein is what I'm lacking).

In my experience, HETT is a looser-hold gel. BRHG is a super hard gel, so you could try that or another very hard hold gel to see if it gives you the hold you want.

The smell isn't as strong now, which is really depressing!

It's not droopy, though, the waves just get loose because I have nothing to hold them. It's nothing like the droop I get when I need an ACV rinse.

Interesting... could you recommend any other gels with better hold? I'm in college (you know, broke?) so I can't shell out $12 for a gel, especially if I don't know I like it!

Some say HE SMU is a harder hold gel (I haven't tried it). A lot of curlies use the LA Looks gels. I've had okay results with EcoStyler Krystal (32 oz from Sally's for $2.50!), but it has glycerin in it which may be frizz-causing in low dews.

I just tried HETT mousse this afternoon (and posted in the Product Reviews Forum and on a thread about mousse I think in the General Forum) and loved it! $.99 at CVS!! I am loving it! Soft, touchable, frizz free hold.

I like the LA Looks gels, for really cheap "hard" hold. I've also used Suave gels with mixed results.

I'm just starting out on this wavy adventure, so I'm still experimenting. But like you, I'm a grad student, so cheap products = essential.

I know BRHG might seem expensive BUT a bottle can last a loooooong time.

    my 2 cents
I plan to throw away my LA looks sports gel after just one use. Hated it so so much. Stringy crunchy curls. With all the crunch, the curls did not hold at all. Bleck!
I liked the ecostyler. I only used it a few times before it got too cold and dry. I used it with a gel. I found it to have very little hold on it's own.
I've been trying not to buy the BRHG too. I'm just not a 12$ gel kind of girl. Well, not yet...

I'll look into both of those, thanks! & I wish HETT was only $1 around here, I pay $4!

But if I don't like it, I'm out all that money. & If I did like it, I can't afford it anyway. It's just not an option

Don't know where you live, but at Publix the BHRG is only 8 bucks.

I think it depends on what kind of hair you have! I'm the opposite of putaheya, my hair acted like I put nothing in my hair (or well nothing but added weight) when I used the ecostyler. LA sport wasn't half bad. The BHRG was just soooo much better. I've heard people recommending the Got2be Spiked gel as a cheap alternative to the BHRG. Helloitsio's blog talks about that as well as Chi Infra Gel that she picked up recently at TJ Maxx. Which I've been meaning to do.

Oh and the HE Set me up wasn't bad. Its been so long since I used LA sports look and HE SMU I don't know how they compared. I think the HE SMU was better. But see if you can find the Got2be spiked and see how much it is. I don't think its super expensive, but should be super hold like BHRG.

I've been using the got2B spiked up and like it. I currently trying the HETT and I think I like it better. I think it has more hold, but I've only used it once and not with my hometown water.
