haircuts for 3a boy?

Hi mamas and papas, I have this beautiful child who, at age 5 1/2, is now developing hair with the texture of mine- flatter on top, curlier underneath. The shorter it is, the straighter it is. This boy will not wear a hairclip or ponytail, but he says he wants to look like a pirate, not a papa.

So, I suppose I am looking for a boys style, not too short, for hair of mixed-3a-curl! nothing too hard, right?
