top ten hair foods!!!!! the hair bible!!! :)

Hey curlies/wavies :) I bought this book in my school bookstore (which happens to have a whole section on beauty & hair!!!!!!) called The Hair Bible by Susan Craig Scott with Karen W. Bressler. I just started reading it, but it's fantastic- chapter 1 alone explains why females have such an emotional psychological attachment to their hair and I found it very interesting....anyway there's a whole section on hair nutrition, I'm not up to it yet but there are some lists that I thought I'd share with everyone...I'm gonna start incorporating more of this stuff in my diet now

Top Ten Healthy Hair Foods
1. salmon, cold-water fish, sardines
2. eggs
3. lentils
4. wheat bran and germ
5. kale, spinach, watercress
6. unpolished rice
7. cantaloupe
8. blueberries
9. citrus fruits
10. seaweed

Top 12 Snacks for Super Hair
1. almonds
2. walnuts
3. sunflower seeds
4. figs (my fave!!!!!)
5. apricots
6. bananas
7. raspberries or strawberries
8. oranges
9. raisins
10. prunes
11. skim milk, soy latte decaf, or 4oz frozen or regular low fat yogurt
12. small box whole grain cereal or whole grain snack bar

Top 10 Foods for Shine
1. ground flax seed or oil
2. walnuts
3. sunflower seeds
4. olive oil
5. evening primrose oil
6. ginger
7. prunes
8. seafood
9. apples
10. chickpeas

The book was only $15 if anyone wants to order it offline the ISBN # is 0743442601. There some great info in it and I'm only on page 70! They have recipes also.

Just thought I'd share...I get excited when I find interesting hair things :D

Um...the list seems to be missing a vital food group...I'm not seeing chocolate? Anywhere?

    Maybe that's just a typo!

Thank you, Castella. Dark chocolate has valuable anti-oxidants. And where are the banana crisps, iced green tea, canadian bacon, steaks, South Beach breakfast burritos, wine, cheese, Mojito sorbet from JP Licks...and COFFEE??

I definitely saw chocolate, you just have to read between the lines! It clearly says Cadbury Milk Chocolate with Fruits & Nuts (that way you also get the raisins and almonds that are good for you ;) ), Ritter Sport bars, and oh yeah I'm pretty sure I saw those Lindt specialty chocolate bars like the lemon torte one listed in there as well. Honest. 8)

Lentils are like beans. Chickpeas are well, chick peas. There is an Indian meal called moong dahl that its made of them, it's pretty good. Also, figs are a fruit.

So, basically, what's good for your body is good for your hair.

I think coffee and chocolate are implied

If you're a fan of hummus then you'll be glad to know that chickpeas are one of the main ingredients.

Yep, there is a difference. They're also known as garbanzo beans.

I love chickpeas and use them in Indian and Kashmiri cooking. Yum! And yes, you can make your own hummus with them too.

And lushaholic is right, Cadbury's Dairy Milk is one of the best things for your hair I can think of, because while you are stuffing your face with it you really couldn't give two hoots what you look like

I can inhale a whole container of hummus faster than I can type this post. I started making my own a few weeks ago but I had to lay off if the past few days and not make any more because of the, umm, side effects. Yeah.

hehe lushaholic, I guess I best stick to buying mine so I make it last. Although mostly I just see the dogs but I can't blame things on them if they get all jumpy and look at me everytime they hear a noise!

Thanks for the laugh, I actually cried on that one

The said thing is, I can't wait till my embargo is over so I can make more. Makes sense since one of the main ingredients is a legume though, and we all know that saying about those: ' Beans, beans, the more you...'

I live with a pack of dogs, I don't think anyone would care. They do tell on me by looking right at me like I just shot them though

I buy a kind from Russia man it's so good. I'm awful at making it myself. I swear I've actually injured myself on my food processor. I got so excited when I found some gourmet hummus I've bene eating it all week.
Now though when I have my protein shake (protein is good for the hair and I put blueberries in it) and my hummus I get to say it's good for me. I just don't mention the good for me is good for my hair or that there might be unwanted side effects
