Body aches, chills, fatigue, but no fever...

medussamedussa Posts: 12,993Registered Users
what could this be?

Is it possible to have the flu in the absence of fever? I feel like I've been run over by a truck and I feel very cold and tired, but that's it. So odd.

Both the boy and I have had something very similar:

    aches
    stiff neck
    sore throat
    malaise
    a little congestion
    no fever
    [and grouchiness!]

It's some virus but not any type of the flu. It took about 2-3 weeks to pass.

Oh good god, I hope it's not that. The symptoms came on abruptly last night. I was in bed by 7:45pm. Right now I'm laying on the couch with eleventy billion blankets. Lucky for me, I have no cough or sore throat. But I am hella grouchy.

I'm glad you're all better--what you had sounds pretty awful.

I didn't realize grouchiness was a symptom of an illness. I should've called in sick today, if that's the case. :)

Or several times a week as of late, for me anyways!!! :)

I do think it's possible to have the flu without a fever, or just some other kind of virus. I know that I had something a few weeks back that sounded similar. I kept taking my temp thinking that I should have had a fever, but I didn't. My skin even felt warmer than it usually does, but no fever.

Unlikely to be flu with no fever, but it sounds like some kind of virus.

It probably is viral, in which case it makes no sense to schlep with two little kids to the doctor (and risk having them pick up something while there). Hopefully I can get through this without asking anyone for help.

Thanks for the responses...I :love4: you guys.

    Clearly she's delirious. :)

Can your husband stop somewhere on the way home and stock up on ibuprofen and soup and sick-people-food for you?

And drink a lot - water, please, although I know a tot of something medicinal is tempting.

    Feel better!

Ha. I think the reason it took us so long to kick the virus was we were both still having to work. I missed 2 days, he didn't miss any. Yay new jobs with little sick leave built up!

And yes, grouchiness! He's so good natured that he's never grouchy unless sick.

And the chills SUCKED. It wasn't even cold when we were sick and the shivering would not let up.

Not everyone gets a fever with regular flu, and they're saying that up to 50% of patients with this H1N1 flu are presenting with no fever.

Maya had something similar 2 weeks ago. It lasted about 3 days. I hadn't heard that about H1N1 sometimes [presenting without fever. Interesting.

sounds like your standard run of the mill viral infection... (could be H1N1, but don't know) my methods...

Gatorade!! sometimes water just is too much for my tummy

last time I had a really bad viral infection I took like 3-4 showers just to get warm and let the warm water and massage just make my cozy!

also tylenol or motrin is good too!

    Get better soon M!

Yeah. Neither of us tested positive for H1N1. Just a nasty virus.

Ha! She's busy trying to squirm her way between us (I've been trying to nurse lying down). She knows I don't feel well because she keeps trying to get under the covers with me to snuggle and is saying I love you more than usual. Problem is that she's all elbows and knees and as achy as I've been, it's hasn't been fun.

Good news is that a little while ago, I took some prescription strength ibuprofen and the body aches and chills are gone. Hopefully they won't return in when the pain reliever wears off.

The worst part of being sick is not being able to hug and kiss my children. It's unnatural for me not to be all over them and I slip from time to time. I hope I haven't infected anyone.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

Feel better! In my experience, if it comes on all of a sudden like that, it's the flu.

Uggh that must be hard. The good news is Maddie's getting antibodies against whatever you have, from your milk. Is Lily still nursing at all?
