Special scissors for split ends?

I am wondering if you all use a special pair of scissors for trimming splits and what brand do you use. I want one good pair, so that I am not damaging the end and leaving my hair ready for another split. They have a lot at Sally's, but they can get real spendy. I don't wanna cheap out on scissors, but I don't want to pay more than I have to either.

In my experience the brand is not as important as the sharpness of the blades. I just went to Sally's and picked a pair that was small enough for me to handle easily. Then I only use them for trimming hair and always keep them sharpened. Hope that helps some.

How do you sharpen them? Would a knife sharpener work?

So, how do you know they are sharp enough? :?

Yes, you can use any sharpening instrument. (Like a knife sharpener). As for knowing whether they are sharp enough, I just sharpen them every time I use them. But, if they are sharp enough to slice through paper without resistance, then they are sharp. Lets just say, sharp enough to really hurt if you accidentally run them across your skin. (Thus the reason to get ones you can easily handle :)
