The first week of November I will have been tranisitioning for 1 year. I would LOVE a buddy! Unfortunately, I do not have any great suggestions for moisturizing my hair. I use morracain oil daily...but I must confess I mostly wear my hair straight! I blow out and flat iron my hair once every other week. I have tried the twist out and braid outs with minimal success. How do you typically wear your hair?

I've been transitioning for a year! I did plan on bc'ing this month, but I decided to wait! My main transition style has been kinky twists, but I think after I take this set down I will get micros.

I'm a long-term transitioner & almost 16 months in, and plan to go until I have BCL or almost SL natural hair with product. So, I'll BC sometime between July & November of next year. I wear my hair in high, mid or low buns 60% of the time, and 4 braids the remainder--mostly at night or on the weekend.

I mostly hang out in the 4A thread

I'm three months into my transition, and plan on going for a year and half to two years. So huge congratulations to the women who've been transitioning for some time now, because it can be frustrating.

I'm new, so can anyone recommend what they do to stop breakage. I'm using my fingers and a wide tooth comb to detangle, but I'm noticing a lot of hair coming out. Is this pretty typical for long-term transitioners???

    I'm a 3c/4a type.

I don't know if it's normal, but I have not experienced shedding. How often do you deep condition your hair and how often do you comb your hair? Do you where your hair in protective styles as a means to safegaurd your ends?

I deep condition weekly, co-wash with conditioner 1-2x a week, use very moisturizing products--not grease or oils, and only use a comb once per week, and finger detangle in the shower. As it gets colder, I'll DC twice a week, cover hair with a silk beanie before putting on a winter hat & keep my hair in a protective style as a means to save my ends from damage.

Moisturized hair does not break unless over moisturized which can be corrected with a protein treatment of some kind.

I am considering an 18-month transition. Right now I'm 9 months in and wearing protective styles (extensions) so I don't fuss with my hair everyday or get the urge to BC.

I am about eight months into my transition and I am having a hard time. I do plan on going for at least a year to a year and a half. I don't think I can BC (what if I hate it???). I wear my hair in buns and curly sets alot. I think I plan to try wigs and half wigs next. I also co-wash about once a week. I don't have much breakage, not what I consider breakage because of the protective styles, I don't comb my hair. It could be shedding. I would recommend DCing and I just started taking biotin. Hope this helps.

I will be a year at the end of November. Up until last Thursday I used Cantu products but they have too much going on in the ingredients and my hair was starting to pick up on that, especially when I was co-washing with the conditioner and styling with the leave-in conditioner. In other threads I said that today I used a sample pack from curls.biz and I was relatively impressed and their quench moisturizer is awesome. Also I would recommen the Mist Bodifyer(i think that's how it's spelled) from Black Earth Products. That is acutually really awesome and you can even use it for braiding styles. For styling twist-outs and rollersets. Bantu knots and straw-sets are on the way:nike:

I deep condition my hair once a week with Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose and Olive Oil Penetrating conditioner for 45 mins. I only comb my hair when detangling after a wash or co-wash because I wear my hear in twists. I sleep with a sating hair cap on. I co-wash with Herbal Essence Hello Hydration and Suave Coconut conditioner. Once a week I wash my hair Organix coconut milk and Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat shampoos. When I'm twisting I add giovanni direct leave-in conditioner and Miss Jessie's [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Miss-Jessies-Curly-Pudding-p-578.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=miss-jessies-curly-pudding]curly pudding[/buylink].
You see my dilemma? I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong for so much hair to come out, that's why I'm wondering if this happens because i am choosing to be a long term transitioner.

A product to make tranistioning EASIER!
Scissors. Think of it like this, your mixing dirty clothes with clean clothes, you can use all the perfum you want (hair product) but the dirty clothes (permed hair) will never be clean, will eventually get old, raggedy, and eventually start shredding/breaking(natural&permed hair). Don't waste your time. Transitioning for most is a :boxing: fight that relaxed hair will win!

I am... I've been transitioning for 1 year and 1 month!! I've always had very long hair, so I'm waiting until my new growth gets past my shoulders before I BC. I haven't had any breakage, so far so good.

be careful when installing micros. The weight of the weave has been known to cause breakage along the hairline. box braids or twists would be safer and they're much easier to take down.

to the OP, Im 23+ months in w/ a lot of growth. My hair in the back is a little past sl when soaking wet but when it's dry and shrunken its a little above my ear. :(
Hopefully by the time I BC in may the hair on the front and sides will be grazing my shoulders.

It's been about 18 months transitioning, I wanted to give myself a year to see if I needed a BC but I don't need to. My hair has never looked better. I can wear wash n go's without a headband to cover my hairline now lol.

I've been cutting off the ends slowly and now just cut off any straight ends left. My hair is almost BSL when wet but shrinks but it is hanging past my shoulders now when dry FINALLY!

Transitioning since 4/2008, with no plans to BC

I've been transitioning since Oct. 31, 2008. My goal is 18mths. I figure it will be warmer and I would be able to do wash-n-gos - I'm figuring around April/May doing the BC of what's left of my relaxed ends.

I feel the same about Cantu, after a day it felt caked on... The only thing that i LOVE right now is Assuie Moist. I use it as a leave in and i co-wash.. I really love it. I am still looking for the perfect product that my hair likes...

I only straighten my hair 1-2 times every 2/3 months. I wear it in braid-outs, low ponytails and a couple of cute buns... I try not to comb it a lot, so low ponytail work great... I will do a video of some of my favorite styles... What products are you using for your hair.....

I bun about 99% of the time. I'm trying my hand at twist outs as soon as I figure out the right product combination. Other than that, I co-wash twice a week and wash/DC every two weeks (something new I'm trying). But I find my scalp starts to get itching after about a week and a half if I don't wash. I'm gonna try oiling my scalp with avocado, jojoba and coconut and maybe (JBCO) oils twice a week and see if that helps with the itching. I have to get the avocado oil.

I plan on transitioning for about 18 -24 months. I know I will make it to at least 12 months because I can't deal with a TWA & I have a slim face so it'll look odd.

I want to try protective styles but I'm infatuated with straight hair:sad8: I promised myself that I would do a protective style for Thanksgiving week! I want to do a rod set, I just hope it doesn't turn into a TnC!! Which I have mastered and love but cant get more than 3 day hair lol

My products change all the time. Right now, clarifying poo is Nexxus Aloe Rid and moisturizing poo is Trader Joe Nourish spa.
Moisturizing DC's alternate between Pantene R/N DC in the brown jar, Aussie 3 min Deeeeeeep, and KBB Honey Oatmeal DC. Protein DC's alternate between Aphogee 2 step, ORS mayo, and homemade with some blend of yogurt
Leave in's alternate between KBB hair milk, Trader Joe Nourish spa conditioner, Lacio Lacio
I also use gel if I'm bunning. So far I've tried Ecostyler clear gel, Fantasia IC with the sparklites, and [buylink=http://www.curlmart.com/Kinky-Curly-Curling-Custard-p-778.html?utm_source=naturallycurly.com&utm_medium=text-link&utm_content=curltalk-post-text&utm_campaign=kinkycurly-curling-custard]KCCC[/buylink]
