Facials

JosephineJosephine Posts: 14,175Registered Users
Do you get them regularly? Do they really help long term? Some people say you should get them every month and I knew a woman who did every month religiously (who was still in her 20's). I find that excessive. I just got my first one last week and it was nice. But for some reason I don't think it's good to do it too often.

Are you being perverted?! I didn't even know about that until I googled facials last week!

I don't get them as often as I'd like due to financial constraints, but I'm not sure why you think they'd be something that wasn't good to have often.

I got one the other day - my skin was really dry after a busy month during which it was neglected. My skin really perked up. I also got a $20 discount on my next one, so I will be going back after my next busy work month!

Actually, the facial just FELT really good to - felt like a decadent treat to myself. I left the spa so relaxed and happy!

I used to get them frequently, and now I don't get them at all. My skin is actually pretty much better off not getting them and just using my skin care routine.

I've never had one, but I hear they're good for your skin. I think one main benefit is that the aesthetician can safely extract blackheads, and you're not "supposed to" do it yourself.

I don't get facials. I don't want anyone using products with dubious ingredients in them on my face (and "spa" products are usually the biggest offenders of damaging ingredients) and I don't think manual extraction is good for anyone's skin, so I just don't see the need.
  • JosephineJosephine Posts: 14,175Registered Users
What's wrong with manual extractions? Apparently I have tons of blackhead and whiteheads on my nose but I never knew. My sister noticed and pointed it out to me. The beautician extracted quite a few but couldn't do all of them since they need to come up more, whatever that means. What do you think best way is to get rid of them?

No matter how carefully it's done, extraction causes trauma to the skin. I think using acids to exfoliate within the pores is less traumatic, but people need to decide for themselves.

Anything you decide to do is usually only temporary. Clogged-pores/blackheads on the nose and surrounding area seem to come right back, almost immediately. It's like shoveling sand against the tide.

Heh, I'm being pervy, too. Though in my defense it's due to a recent exchange at work. As I was pouring some grits for family meals and B was holding down the container, the steam was hitting my face. I commented I was getting quite the facial, and before he could say anything, I pointed out, "no, not that kind!". He then told me that a friend of his had a girlfriend who offered him (the friend) to try any sexual thing he wanted. He suggested a facial and she pulled out her makeup and skin care bag.

As for the topic, I've never had that type of facial. The sexual kind . . . no comment. Hee.

LOL This thread is going to get an adult title.

I have always wanted to do (spa) facials but I'm too afraid they will make me break out- everything does.

to the OP, no I don't get facials, I never really saw the purpose of them. Gently exfolia.ing your skin daily or every other day will do the same thing. Im also afraid they're going to break my skin out. I'll stick to washing with castille soap and using a moisturizing body lotion.

    Semen ingredients:
citric acid, free amino acids, fructose, enzymes, phosphorylcholine, prostaglandin, potassium, and zinc.

sounds like a protein treatment to me, don't knock it till you try it RCW. Maybe the hair that frames your face will be super defined and frizz free.:love3:

Omg, I'm glad I clicked on this thread, you guys are cracking me up.

As for spa facials, I have acne-prone combo skin, and I gave it a shot once. It made my skin look super shiny and bright for a day, then super-dry for like a week, and then I broke out for like 2 months. I won't be doing that again!

Where's the fat? I thought it was fattening.
And it never washes out of your hair. Don't do it.

    (Sorry Josephine!)

I've gotten facials every 5-6 weeks for several years. I love them. I have one scheduled tomorrow. For me, it's more of a relaxing indulgence than a skincare essential. However, I do find the extractions help, when I need that. I'm in my mid-40's now. I don't think facials have lasting impact unless you go at more frequent intervals (maybe every 3-4 weeks. I think it's the daily/weekly routines that help keep my skin looking and feeling good. I don't buy products when I'm there.

With money being tighter, I'm trying to stretch the intervals more.

There's also the fact it's really salty, you wouldn't want that in your eyes! Imagine going out with pink eye. Urgh!

Back to the OT, I've considered getting facials done regularly because my skin looked so much better afterwards when I've had them done before. I did get a breakout afterwards but I thought that was just the gunk coming to the surface and would become less and less over time. Is that not the case?
Fat does not make you fat. It's actually pretty important.
